my 96 ford bronco

dang! it's been a while since i updated this thread. here are some highlights:
rebuilt most of the rear end-wheel bearings, seals, new axles, and new limited slip clutches. the axle was a little worn

over thanksgiving my alternator went out. so i upgraded from the factory 95 amp job to a 130 amp. so i replaced the factory charge cable with an upgrade to a 4 gauge cable and 175 amp megafuse. and while i was at it, i went ahead and did a factory replacement of the positive and negative battery cables, too.

and for cosmetics, i replaced my busted up driver side door panel with a "new" one

new to me

and while i was at the junk yard pullin parts, i found a replacement driver side visor, too. the bronco has a double visor, but i only had half and the other half had ripped off.

then i replaced the tailgate lock, too. that let's me now use a key to roll down the window from the back instead of using the switch on the dash. and while i was at it i decided to leave off the tailgate trim panel since i am working to remove all chrome.

pulled a little trailer to pick up a new couch and drop off the old one.

i got under my bronco to change the oil recently. i saw some oil creeping out around the oil pan and transmission connection. so...i tightened a few oil pan bolts around the rear main. we'll see if that does it. i'm not holding out a lot of hope.

i'm mentally preparing myself to drop the transmission to install a repair sleeve and new rear main seal sometime this fall.

i guess i should have done it when i had the engine pulled instead of replacing the factory seal and hoping for the best. oh well, live and learn.

fords of that vintage are notorious for leaking oil from the valve cover and oil pan and its usually just a matter of tightening the bolts.

That's the age of Ford that when you order an oil pan gasket, the "gasket" is a tube of black RTV and two halves of a rubber ring seal to put around the crank mating area. Great times getting that crap to seal.

sometimes they didnt even use rtv, they considered two machined surfaces good enough

My oil pan gasket is a "reusable" one piece rubber gasket with metal reinforcement rings on each bolt. I used rtv at the front and rear seals.

I inspected the crankshaft for damage when I installed the rear main but it looked ok. I didn't take any measurements, though. We'll see in a few months if it was the pan or the rear main seal.

The valve cover gaskets are steel reinforced with rubber attached to them. Also "reusable".

If it wasn't leaking before you done fucked up.

No I just read it a year ago. My memory is pretty good but not that good. Is it a two piece rear main seal

i've done a few things to the bronco. not much to write home about. but, i did take the bronco down to corpus christi for vacation. that was pretty fun.

@Raider i'm checking in again. did you miss me?

sooo....earlier this year i finally got to do some engine work.

i replaced the heads with GT40 heads (same as what was on similar year mustangs) an edelbrock performer intake, bbk ceramic coated shorty headers, and i replaced the oem y-pipe with 2 cats for a different y-pipe with 1 cat.

@Raider

What's up? You always told me to sell my escape before the transmission went out on me. Well, the escape died but it was the engine. I lost compression on #3. 0 psi. 243k miles on it. Was a pretty good run.
