I decided to make the software all in one, Logger, Editor, Flasher.

Editing this for a quick update. I've made a lot of progress the last few days. 7 definitions are in the github, I've also got a logger and dumper that works with both the vlinker fs and tactrix devices. LOTSSSS of definition tables for the 7 ROMS so far.

New here, not new to cars or ECU/tuning stuffs. I got a bug and decided to start working on ecu definitions for this platform for RomRaider. I've got one up so far, but will probably start adding more as I collect them and get time. This first definition is only for a stock rom file speed 6 (no 2 step, big load maps, map switching, or any mods, yet)

I thought I would pop in and put up a post on it, just in case there are any geeks like me around here that enjoy ECU reverse engineering and disassembly.

Anyways, github is here: https://github.com/mrphyslaw/MazdaSpeedDefs

Just added another Speed 6 definition file. The goal will be to get a smattering of 3/6 roms supported in RomRaider for editing and then build a flasher/logger(I've already started) to enable open source tuning round trip. Hardware support so far will be tactrix devices, and the vLinker FS, because that's what I have access to. This ROM set/ECU is pretty cool because it has a robust OBD ECU recovery, unlike some of the Nissan stuff I've worked with in the past. Much easier to fix a bad flash via OBD than having to solder a bunch of wires and build a circuit to put the ECU in recovery mode. o_O

Anndddd one more post for today since I'm in the zone on this at the moment. This is going to be the flasher/logger. Currently its python, as that was easiest to get a quick working prototype, but I'm going to convert it to C#/.net. Its got support the vLinker FS as of now and only dumps. It will correct checksums and do a read verification as well. I wanted to get it out in the wild and see if anyone wants to test, and the safest way to do that was dump only, for now.

This is really interesting, and I'm glad someone is taking this approach with these cars.

I'm not too familiar with open-source tuning, but I'd love to see what this could eventually make possible for the MPS platform. Having the ability to not rely on a proprietary tuning software would be awesome.

I'm based in Australia and have access to all the MPS models, so if you need anything from them I could potentially help out.

Keen to see where this project goes.

At this point collecting ROM files to create definitions would be the goal. I've got 7 defined so far, but there are more. I've decided that I don't love editing ROMS with Rom Raider as its antiquated and runs on Java, so I built out a ROM editor in SpeedLink too. So now you can log, edit, and dump/flash(not yet) with one software. If you have a Tactrix or Vgate vLinker FS grab the latest software from the releases page and backup a factory file from your ecu(s) that you have access to. I should be able to add definitions for new ROM files/ECUs pretty quickly.

Release page is here: https://github.com/mrphyslaw/SpeedLink/releases

Edit:
I added a "ROM dump" workflow/guide. If you don't want to upload the rom publicly just shoot me a message here:
