Open source tuning for MazdaSpeed - SpeedLink

I will wait for that so I know if it is actually working. Out of curiosity do you use the built in AI on GitHub to help develop the software?

Edit: I'll send you a DM on here as it is easier than clogging up this thread for more useful information.

Easy as, I'll test it out soon.

A side question, with the ability to access and modify the ROMs now, does this give people the ability to make custom ROMs with definitions to create new tables and features, similar to what they do with EVOs on ECUflash?

Yup. Very similar. If someone has the knowledge they can create whatever they want. I did something similar with Nissans some years back and eventually a shop implemented map switching on the factory ecu based on the open source definitions and flashing.

My plan is to add all the common stuff once the software is a bit more mature: 2 step, nlts, mayyybe map switching(there should be enough room, I think)etc.

Okay that is pretty cool to hear and keen to see where this goes then.

Looking forward to see this pans out. I went ahead with Versatuner in 2019 after my RX8 ECU got toasted by a piggyback that was installed by a previous owner, and stuck with them for my Speed6 tuning. Nothing wrong with the software or VT crew at all, but my wallet isn’t a fan of being $500 lighter just for access to the software to only have the ability to use OTS or pay more for e-tuning. I always support open source software.

Next time I’m doing some longer work on my car I’ll revert back to my OEM calibration and dump it for this project. Also I’ll let this cook a little longer too, as stated earlier I’ve had bad luck with an ECU in the past so I play it safe before messing too much in that regards.

I don’t know your full technical skills in coding, but it may be worth while to try and look a bit into reverse engineering the popular tuning file formats so that users have an easier transition to this open source option.

The tables are going to be pretty similar(same tables, just different naming, sans any modifications I make) to all the other stuff, but unlocking/RE commercial software is a bit of a grey area I’m not interested in making part of the project. It’ll be easy enough to do the tuning based on guides that are available or have a tuner do it for you.
