Rest in Peace, Mike Shaw aka VIP.

I don't like doing this. My friend Mike Shaw, who has not really been active here, but is well known in Nator and Dragon Camp, has cancer. It's in his leg, spread to lungs and spine. Stage 4. Chemo and radiation on tap, he's unable to work, is on COBRA health care, and is struggling as his wife is the breadwinner as a teacher. They have a baby and a daughter too.

If you are able to help, thank you.

***Update March 24th, as posted in the thread. Mike was a fighter to the end, and passed away in hospice with family beside him that evening. Donations collected through 4/30 for member upgrades have been donated to the gofundme. The link below is here if you want to make a direct donation. ***

MSO raised a lot of money, and 2 members even donated a substantial amount. It has helped a LOT, and his family thanks everyone for their support.

Thank you to _Mazdarati , Joshua MS3, yankejustin, Jingersnapp, Joshua Hunter, Vkrum, and Maisonvi for your membership upgrades!

Not the update I wanted to make. I've been putting this off partially for denial. Mike's cancer has spread to his whole spine and spinal cord, and the clinical trial got taken off the table. He's been at a hospice facility for a few days, getting pain management done, and is now preparing to go home for home hospice tomorrow.

Please keep him and his family in your thoughts.

If you have a lump, pain, weird mole, etc, please go see a doctor.

I really want to downvote your post because I hate it.

To add to getting shit checked out if you have dependents you need life insurance. If you think you can't afford it the reality is that you can't afford to not have it.
I know man. This is complete bullshit.

My favorite pic with him when we worked together, probably 14 months ago.

Was lucky to visit Mikey at his home with family. Cherishing our time with him.

A quote from a Mazdaspeed friend lost years ago came to me today. This was on his page back in the day.

"Every day is so valuable and important, because after that day is done, you can never get that day back." -- Shannon A. Seabolt ( 1338)

Last Sunday was the final time to have seen Mike. He's limited to immediate family. A port has been put in, injection medication now, and it's ramped up. We have days now.

Thanks to member upgrades from @DubC and @Code Monkey, it went to good use.

I'll keep the donating as long as the gofundme is up.

Thanks to everyone who supported our Nator cause.

Eric

both of my parents died from cancer, as well as my sister-in-law. FUCK cancer. the last days are the hardest. we spent most of the time telling old stories about each person (per each time). i wish i would have spent more time just talking to them. do it if you can.

Mike was taken by ambulance to a hospice facility for his final hours. Due to Covid19, only 2 family members can be with him at a time. I'm gutted, but also know he is in so much pain right now, he deserves to be pain free.
