Shifting into 5th causes shifter to pop back into 3rd

Recently tackled the pivot shaft seal fix on my 07 genjuan and while relatively easy, I was working too hastily and managed to put the long part of the linkage on backwards. I know... shame on me. :crybaby2:

I attempted to remove the main pin holding the entire assembly on and in the process of doing so, ended up destroying it into pieces. I went to the parts store to grab another spring pin that wasn't quite as thick as the one that I had destroyed, but it fit snug and worked fine for the time being. Put the assembly back on and she was shifting fine.

Few weeks later, was on the way home from work when I had tried to downshift into 2nd and it suddenly refused to go into 2nd and every other gear with movement only being up and down and slightly side to side. I somehow got it into gear and it had kept working until my downshift again caused it to lock up. Next morning, I fiddle with the shifter linkage and it shifted fine until I tried to get it into 5th, and it goes into 3rd instead. I adjusted again and it shifted fine into 5th after that. Next morning, had touched absolutely nothing, and it had shifted into 3rd when trying to shift into 5th from 4th. Fiddled with it again and it held up during an entire roadtrip. Woke up this morning and drove the car, and same issue again. Now after spending a few hours messing with it again, it now seems to be doing it regardless of the adjustment position.

Not only that, but it seems to be having huge slop in every gear, even when moving.

I'm not the most mechanically inclined, but I'd really appreciate any help with the situation.

You are going to have to open it back up. Caution is called for!! If you keep driving, and two gears in gauge. I can only think $$$$$
Since separate transmission parts are rare and expensive. I know around here, whole transmissions are in short supply and parts worse.

Yea stop.driving it until you can pull the assembly and investigate

I suppose that's my problem

Now the fun part is trying to figure out where the spring pin went and trying to figure out how to get it out.

Something like this would help, it probably didn't go to far and is sitting at the bottom.

This pin thing happened before. Opened drain, there it was. So get a flexible magnet and open the drain and get it before you need a new trans.

I bought the tool Johnny suggested and unfortunately haven’t had any luck fishing it out through the open area for the pivot shaft. I also tried opening the drain but wasn’t able to get the tool in because of this gear sitting in the way, so I'm probably either going to pump fluid into it a bunch of times to see if it'll dislodge, or try hunting for it with a borescope that I have on the way.

Turn engine some, crank end bolt, or left axle. It will shift some. Jack the read end up and open up both fill and drain, hammer that case...the trans oil is sticky with additives to keep on spinning gears, don't give up. Maybe some heat on case with heater get that oil thinner.

Oh my, you are super lucky. I took my 10 minutes to figure out how that whole pivot shaft assembly went back together when I was doing mine a few months ago.
