The button and spring in the actuator had popped out and were in the timing cover. It was not a revision C actuatorIt would be more likely that the previous owner fucked up the install of the new one and that is what caused the slip

You can tell the valve cover had never been taken off the car either. The VC gasket literally was rock hard and crumbled to pieces when removed from the valve cover
