Valve Cover Breather

No, as far as I know. Due to not having the baffler on the inside of the oil fill, oil will fill the breather and then leak into the engine bay. I recall a post from PD last week on FB speaking directly to this with the recommendation of vented OCC. Maybe the DM crew can add some knowledge here.

The CMF one has a check valve built in. I dont know how well that works or not, but Ive been told people with it havent had issues.
 
We made one for my dad's speed6 with a built in check valve and after a week it was full of oil and starting to leak. The valve type may make a difference too but that is for keeping unmonitored air out. @bRitzCrackers??

I attempted to make my own with a labrynth seal in it. I failed. It worked for a while, but ended up with oil on the valve cover after a week or 2. The good to know a check valve seems to work

Update: Got a couple pictures on my gen1 cover. This is the 86-01 Mustang breather (www.c-f-m.com/performanceparts/pc/CFM-4-6-5-0-5-4-5-8L-Baffled-Billet-Valve-Cover-Breather-Kit-for-1986-2001-Mustang-GT-Cobra-p3206.htm#.VvMR2sspBnE). No there is no baffle of course on the cover, and yes there is oil on the bottom side of the cap and inside it (it's not air tight), but I never have any oil film on my valve cover or any excess dripping from the filter. I've had it on here 2 years. The cap does have a ball inside that acts as a check and does have baffles, so it's not just a straight pass through. I'm sure if I never touched it, oil vapor would eventually work it's way through, but every time I change my oil, I spray some brake clean in it and blow it out dry... NBD.

Thanks alex. I think I will add this to my mod list. Seems like it works well and then I dont have to make a dip stick holder or buy a gen 2 cover.
 
I have the dual can setup with a vented VC cap but have a spring on the dip stick for good measure
 
Yeah I have it zip tied at the track, but I want to make a spring holder for it

IMG_2868.JPG Ran a CFM breather on my gen1 valve cover (have had a gen2 valve cover in storage with a CFM breather waiting to go on but wanted to test this anyway) and I'm currently on a 20k mile motor with 15psi basemap. After 2 weeks of basic spirited driving and short 2nd and 3rd gear pulls on 15psi I got oil on my valve cover and on passenger side heat shield on firewall. After 1.5 weeks I noticed the filter was black, and also notice I have the vent tube VTA'd with a K&N filter to further assist with venting blow by that I installed at same time but even that didn't help. Just my trial results with that suggestion :)
 
I have this breather on my Gen1 VC. I also notice that after a couple weeks I get residue on my VC. I have dual OCC's with a PERM plate.
