VoodooShark's V2 Buttz Build

Found a local who works in my city and has a spare oem piece he'll give me. Picking it up tomorrow, swapping hopefully this weekend and then double hopefully finally making some solid progress on this tune; what an ordeal this has been.

Yeah yeah, ruckus from the peanut gallery. The next project is a '51 mercury chop top to build with my son.
I'd glance at the forum from time to time and was confused for a while why Sharks kept replying to this thread. Finally took the time to read.

I know this is kind of a hijack-necro reply but good luck with your new build (both you guys) and thanks for the support during a rough time.

Cracked ass XSP has been out since last weekend, replaced by an ol' reliable oem manifold from a local with 250k+ cumulative miles on it. Idle log "looks great" and AFR at WOT seems to be oscillating in lower increments from target than it was before, but tuna still doesn't like what it's doing. A buddy is supposed to be mailing out a pair of spare o2 sensors today for me to try, but I'm otherwise pretty much out of ideas.

I started working on this tune in June and we're still only on v1.4 of the 93 base map; I am quite frankly beyond frustrated, as the homies I chat with on fb can attest to. I have smoke and boost leak tested multiple times and fixed the small leaks I found, replaced the vc gaskets and fasteners, VVT seal, etc. but there always seems to be something new to hold us up on progressing. If anyone has any fresh ideas, I am all ears.

During these times of despair just look through failed build threads and people who got bent over by shady builders and you will feel so much better.

I swapped out the primary o2 tonight with one that came off of @KiwiFlavor 's old car (so you know the herpes on it are good and seasoned in), and cranked the preload on my Turbosmart bov all the way to full heavy setting. New logs are showing afr range of about 11.6-11.9, whereas it was fluctuating between 10.5-12.5 previously. Logs have been sent off to the tuna for confirmation but I am cautiously optimistic that progress has been made. If not, my bff @JohnnyTightlips has an oem dp gasket in the mail to me that I can swap out as the next possible solution to my woes.

Crossing fingers, toes and weiner for good news after the logs have been reviewed.

I will make the same suggestion I've made to others for trouble shooting, gas can, matches, fire, roll down a hill, and you're #dun trouble shooting. Insurance takes care of the rest.

Progress happening in small steps. PI feed line is plumbed as of Monday; I did not have good luck assembling my own line and ended up buying a premade from Radium for like $28. I spent as much on hose and fittings so if I'd known from the start that their premade assemblies were that reasonably priced, I'd have just grabbed one from them months ago.

Still trodging through the 93 base tune, presumably getting close to the end of that process. SS controller needs to be wired in, then the PI system will be fully ready to go. Weather has gone to shit for winter so once we move past pump gas, I'm going to be dead in the water until I can put summer tires back on; unless I decide to make my wallet eat shit and arrange a remote dyno session to finish it off.

I had one of the hose ends get seized up on the PTFE hose; both of which were bought from siliconeintakes.com. Their PTFE is rubber coated on the outside of the stainless steel braiding, which makes it harder to work with to begin with because it prevents the shoulder of the fitting from sliding down the hose as far as is needed for assembly. You have to cut and peel back the outer rubber layer, which is the first struggle since it is pretty much molded into the steel threads. After patiently fighting with it for over an hour, wearing out my hands and poking myself countless times on the ss braiding, I reached a point where the shoulder could not advance any further up the hose to meet the outer half of the fitting in order to screw together. Upon closer inspection, it looks like the brass crush fitting that goes inside the assembly managed to get wedged in at an angle, and now it is 100% S T U C K.

I cut the end off so I could try to disassemble the fitting and try again, but nothing that I've tried will get that short piece of hose and the brass fitting to come out of the shoulder coupler. Plus the exterior of the fitting got marred to hell, so I was at a point of needing to buy a new hose end anyway. That, plus struggling again for who knows how long and ultimately being unsure of whether I'd do a good enough job for it to not leak and hold up long-term, made me decide that my time, effort and peace of mind was worth $30 and stumped for the Radium line. Which btw is absolutely beautiful, looks one million times better than anything I'd ever assemble, is very high quality and went right into the car without any fuss.

TLDR; I suck big at PTFE, and/or maybe the hardware from siliconeintakes is cheaper for a reason -- although it does look and feel like it's high enough quality to be a good bargain. I did succeed in assembling the first hose end, so I have half a finished line, but that second end made me its bitch bigtime.

The fuel pressure gauge is from Jegs; nothing fancy, I just really liked the full black housing (most I seemed to find were a combination of black/silver), and the carbon fiber style face goes with some of the accent trim shit I've put on the car. :gey::gey: Part no. 555-41533 https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/41533/10002/-1

Bump.

Picked up some alcantara genjuan front seats today, and mounted those up in the car. I had forgotten how much better the first gen seats are than second gen, both in terms of comfort and appearance. It was the first difference I noticed when I sold the red car and started driving this one but I guess the effect had worn off over time. Will be good to be back in proper bolsters and adjustable lumbar. Dude told me that mz3 door cards are interchangeable, so I might hunt for a set of those now to get rid of the chickenpox. He also has a line on an alcantara rear bench, but I keep the back seat covered because dog life, so I'm not sure I care enough about that at the moment.

No progress on the tuning front because winter, but once the weather comes back around in my favor I only need to wire in the SS Controller and then we're ready to let it rip on the PI tune. DI 93 tune is finished so at least that's something off the checklist.

Radium fuel line is still fucking gorgeous and I don't regret paying for a pre-built unit. Haven't had any leak issues from fittings save for one, a few days after plumbing it all -- the Aeromotive t-adapter I used to split off at the hpfp feed comes with a blocked npt port; they had taped the plug at the factory but apparently it wasn't fuel-safe, because it quickly degraded and started slowly leaking. I re-taped it with the yellow good-good gas rated stuff and no problems since.

I also have a new subwoofer and am loving it, but I don't know how many people around here care about that compared to go fast stuff, lol.

Love the sub and you.
