It's a low-pro 12" that I bought as a sub/enclosure combo; it does take up a little bit of space in the hatch but not really that much -- I just transported those juan seats with it in there and had no issues, for example. I can stack things on top of it if it's face-down or stand it on it's side depending on what's needed, or it's not very cumbersome to handle (unlike a traditional full box) if I want to quickly remove it for hauling something large. @JohnnyTightlips has the same one and turned me onto it. I had a compact, self-powered 10" under my seat but it died (or so I thought), and I figured what the hell - might as well go toward a more proper amp/box setup to round out the sound better. Standing on it's side, I think it actually protrudes less into the hatch than the meth tank that I recently removed. Can get pics later if anyone wants an actual visual of it in a Speed for size reference. I also scored it on an open box deal for under $100, so the value for money is really on point.

Same same with diff box , added a riv nut and then some AL to clamp it in place. Comes out easy peasy.

Oh yeah, his is in a different box. The thing I like about the combo I got is that it has those little "legs" that let me set it flat on the floor of the hatch with the speaker firing downward. Nice and protected from random shit puncturing it and, like said above, I can stack things on top of it quite easily.

Bump.

Picked up some alcantara genjuan front seats today, and mounted those up in the car. I had forgotten how much better the first gen seats are than second gen, both in terms of comfort and appearance. It was the first difference I noticed when I sold the red car and started driving this one but I guess the effect had worn off over time. Will be good to be back in proper bolsters and adjustable lumbar. Dude told me that mz3 door cards are interchangeable, so I might hunt for a set of those now to get rid of the chickenpox. He also has a line on an alcantara rear bench, but I keep the back seat covered because dog life, so I'm not sure I care enough about that at the moment.

Did you grab the seats of FB out of Indiana? If so are they seat rail ready for the genpu?

I'm between finding clean Juan seats or just getting a pair of more agressive Sparcos or Corbeau's. Car is so agressive now that the stock Pu seats just don't do anything.

I bought them from the kid that bought them (he flipped a tidy profit but did the work of transporting then to WI, I guess :gey::gey:).

The inner rail on each seat does directly bolt into the pu (at least for my 2010), but the rear outer bolts don't line up for either. The passenger side rails swapped directly over from my pu seat, as well as the airbag module stuff to avoid the dash light, and then straight into the car. Driver side, they say to modify the existing rail to move the one bolt bracket but I'm going to examine swapping that rail, instead, as well.

Gotchya, I saw the price and figured they were ready to go. One day I’ll snag a set of genjuan seats. I slide around too much in the 2010 seats.

He got them for a song and I overpaid slightly. Fair value is a bit in the middle. The 2011-13 need to use a resistor for the airbag light but apparently that's not an issue for 2010s; pretty much just swap some of the hardware from your shitty pu seats and g2g.

Took a look at the driver side rails. The outer rail, at least on the oem pu seat, is not a full removable rail the way that it is on passenger side; instead, it's just the feet bolted directly to the slider. It appears that this is due to the passenger side airbag sensors that determine when there's an occupant, whereas it's assumed full-time that there's a driver and thus no driver side weight sensors are necessary. This explains why the MSF write up directs you to drill out the the juan seat and move the foot; on the pu the feet are bolted but on the juan they are riveted, otherwise it'd be an even easier swap. The only other driver side piece to swap is the seatbelt receiver; I've been driving to work all week with my belt clipped into passenger side because the pu belt won't fit the juan receiver. Derp. Luckily I'd already swapped all the passenger side hardware or I'd have had no belt, lol.

Been a couple weeks and I ain't even mad about overpaying a bit for these seats (turns out they were @Sho's!); they are so much more comfortable and obviously look a million times better.

Been fucking with the stereo some more, too. Got tired of the Bose speakers after upgrading the sub and decided I needed to do up at least the front doors. This has turned out to be a bit of an ordeal. I went with 6.5" Infinity Reference, having enjoyed Infinity speakers in the past and finding them on a closeout deal, and after a few days was a bit underwhelmed with what I was hearing. Grabbed an amp and thought that'd help once they had proper power behind them -- nope. Wasn't getting any respectable amount of low end, even keeping in mind that they're coax doors, and they'd just start falling apart right away if I tried using the eq to compensate. Amazon returns are stupid easy so I thought I'd pick up some additional options and compare them all together. After some shopping and research, I landed on JBL GTOs and Hertz DCXs, which were delivered today. Both of these easily beat out the Infinity on initial tests, presenting much more low end like I was looking for to fill out the cabin, and I ultimately preferred the overall sound of the JBLs to the Hertz (less harsh highs, similarly tight lows but needed more volume/power to distort), so those are my winner and the other two are going back.

Now for the mounting fun.

The GTOs do not fit the stock door location if you use just a generic 6x8 to 5.25/6.5 adapter. The magnet surround is too large and fouls on this metal brace or whatever it is.
20200208_123146.jpg

I considered my options and figured I could either cut some metal out or space the speakers away from the door. I didn't really want to fuck with potential structural aspects of the door, so spacing it would be. I did some comparisons with the Bose speaker and it looked like their weird molded basket construct would space things out enough for the GTOs to fit in. So, commence the chopping! I cut/ground out the Bose speaker supports with a dremel, and shaved the front lip recess down to give me a usable spacer that would screw right back into stock location with no adapters. The speaker screwed directly to it and made mounting easy. I drilled a hole in the side to pass through the wiring harness adapters to connect at the back of the speaker, and voila! Good to fucking go. If you wanted to get fancy, you could solder connections from the replacement speaker terminals to the oem ones and use the factory harness clip directly, but I was feeling lazy and already had the harness adapters on hand.

Got everything plugged in and closed back up, and am much happier with the sound compared to before. Hoping I can dial the low up a tad more once these break in a bit, but overall the music already sounds much more full compared to the unbalanced sound of the References when the only low end was coming from the sub in the hatch. Time will tell if I get picky again and end up discontented with these, but hopefully that doesn't happen and I can balance everything to where I want it with just some eq and amp tuning. At least I have a nicer mounting solution, now, if I do decide to experiment further with other speaker options.

Cat picture to reward you all for reading this boring post.

I just did coaxials and bypassed the oem tweeters/center dash. I considered doing components but making the tweeters fit the sail panel seemed like a dick pain that I didn't want to deal with. I'm not going for The Best sound, just Pretty Good/Better Than Bose. The tweeters on the GTOs are directionally aimed upward and it actually does seem to make a surprising difference with the speakers being low-mounted so I think it'll do the trick for my purposes. If I end up not happy after a week or so of break in, and decide to swap yet again, I probably will suck it up and go with components at that point.

I don't know when enough is enough and how to leave well enough alone so now I have a Pioneer head unit and accessories on the way to replace my current Eonon, with hopes of improving quality of sound output. @JohnnyTightlips told me that ditching Eonon for a proper hu in his juan made a huge difference with his aftermarket speaker setup so here's hoping he's right again (as usual). ¯\_(?)_/¯

Do you have any sound damper material in the car? A guy had already installed “Fat Mat” in my entire trunk before I got it and it definitely makes a difference compared to a friend’s ms6 he has.

Jef sound deadened pretty much the entire car back when it was still under his ownership. Did a carpet-out install so it's all throughout the doors and cabin.
