Chad I haven't always, I've done the majority of my wrenching in a cramped 1 car garage in the past. It sucked!
 
Nicely done. Was staring at the power steering tank and finally seen what a electric pump one looks like! I always gotta look close at a bare bay.
Like anything opened up .. more interesting on the inside.
 
Oh yeah for sure, I was looking at it too and realizing I don't have to open it to get the motor out because it's electric

The factory manual mentions disconnecting it though because that procedure takes the motor out the bottom.

Ya know if you have a fancy pants lift, I wish!
 
Ok so dumb question time o_O
What's the loose piece inside the exhaust manifold? I can hear it and feel it move when I tilt it side to side?
 
Yeah that's the feeling I had about it. Now what the hell is loose in there? Any known modes of failure for the OEM exhaust Mani?

I suppose I'll have to bore scope it and find out!

Been a long weekend, I finished stripping to a long block and even built a cradle for transport. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Update:

Well, mystery solved there is a metal sleeve inside the manifold in the flex section. It's loose and slides back and forth maybe 1/4 inch. It's captive so I'm not really going to worry about it.
I'll post pictures of it when I get a chance.

Well I took it to the shop today after work, this part is out of my hands. I am shopping for an ultra sonic cleaning tank to tidy up all these little dirty parts I have while I wait for the long block to be built.Crate - Copy.jpg LOADED - Copy.jpg
 
ultrasonic cleaners won't get much oxidation off, even with a potent cleaner, it's mainly for oils n stuff. electrolysis or a brass wire wheel are the way to go for oxidation.
 
Well its been about a month! I picked up my long block Friday after work and have been working on getting everything back together this weekend. I want my car back but I am not rushing this just taking my time, making sure everything is done correctly.

So I've included pictures of how I dealt with my turbo oil feed line. BNR recommends running an inline filter on a built motor. I tried to find pictures before hand and had a bit of a difficult time doing so. I ended up ordering a bunch of different fittings because I wasn't sure what would work. My plan is to mount the filter on the AC line behind the alternator and then run it behind the heat shield into the turbo.

Well I put my first 50 miles on the motor tonight. Car feel great and idle is smooth, seems much better than what it was before I had it built. I started it yesterday and let it run for about 5 mins and it seemed a little loud from the valvetrain so I got nervous and shut it off. Talked to my builder today and he just sorta laughed at me and said take the damn thing for a drive! So today after work I fired it up and put some miles on it! I am super happy and its been a long rewarding project.

So I built a gauge pod because I wanted oil temp and pressure. Also upgraded and repaired things while to motor was out.
My coolant hard line was rusting a bit so I sanded it down and covered it in marine grade epoxy. I considered a new one but it wasn't readily available and this was about $8. Sure it looks like ass but it shouldn't rust anymore or at least for quite a while.

The RTV on the sandwich plate was to help keep it from twisting if it ever decided to when I was changing a filter. Well it already paid off the nut that holds that thing on loosened up with my oil change tonight!

Other fun stuff a Damond Catch can as well as a Damond PCV plate, Also a CPE TMIC which I'm sure some of you heard me bitch about the finish and fitment. Oh well if it works then I can live with it.

Yes that is the magic smurf sauce being poured in the trans, I listened to the hive and decided to try the Tribodyn. Awafrican, your update thread on this stuff really sealed the deal for me so thanks!

I done my motor swap while working 60 hours doing structural steel welding and then worked out in the gravel driveway til dark for a week until it was all pulled out lol I have a garage now but didn't when I built my motor. You'll get there man just takes time and patience!

Oh I got a garage but it's a 1 car garage identifying as a 2 car
 
Well I threw this on last weekend along with a DM RMM. I wanted to hold out for the street bushing on the RMM but I couldn't wait as I will be tuning this thing soon. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess changing the RMM now would be a PITA with this in place!

HUGE improvement in the way the car delivers power! Zero torque steer or wheel hop, I can almost let go of the steering wheel at WOT and the car just goes where you point it. Steering response is improved also turn in feels much sharper and more responsive and the car just feel more solid over all.

Although I did manage to activate the little known massage feature I'm sure many of you are familiar with :grinning:

I am over 1800 miles on the new motor and switched over to synthetic last weekend as well.

I have decided to tune this thing on the Dyno also. The idea of having to do 10 plus 4th gear pulls in the Chicagoland area isn't too appealing.

I don't live far from Damond Motorsports so I'll be on their Dyno and have Will@PD doing a remote tune. Hoping to finally get off the snow tires this weekend! The weather here cant make up its mind.

Well this was exciting! Noticed some oil under the car and though WELL FUCK! Of course I'm thinking its going to be something horrible to fix. Nope just the stupid threaded plug on the sandwich plate, nothing some ARP thread sealant didn't fix. Good news is I don't need to Fluid Film my car anytime soon!

This is the reason I wanted to get some revisions on the street done before I hit the Dyno.
