What did you do to your ride today

I put the Ford fluid in recently. When winter gets here I'll know if I made the right choice. Seems to work just fine so far.

That's true, but there's almost always a catch 22. Rotella, for instance, has been linked to increased accumulation on valves. If you spray methanol, no biggie. But if you just cleaned them and don't have a long-term solution, you may want to look at other mitigating options.

So you're saying routine valve cleaning isn't the solution? I did not realize that rotella was linked to increased accumulation on valves. I just switched to it this oil change, not because I was smoking but because I thought it was the thing to do, ie less fuel shear

I haven't seen that documented anywhere. Accumulation on valves is going to depend on how much oil you have hitting your valves (from the PCV system) and whether you have EGR disabled or not. Why would it matter what oil you use?

It's not a permanent solution. Once you do it, you'll have to do it again. An oil catch can and disabled EGR will help, but there's no replacement for actually spraying a fuel on the back of the valves, such as in PI, or especially methanol (which eats through the gunk much better than ordinary fuel).

It matters because various oils have various chemical compositions. It was mentioned on MSF in several places by some reputable sources; pretty sure it was a gearhead and some others. And engine oil composition has everything to do with its likelihood of accumulating on the valves, especially post-combustion as it's recycled into the IM again. That was the point being made. Just as different oils have different chemical characteristics, so too will their properties differ post-combustion as they're recycled past the valves and have various potentials to aggregate. Rotella has a higher likelihood of dirtying valves more quickly, according to anecdotal evidence. I wish I knew the exact threads I read this in, but I'm sure you can find them. Regardless, it's Pennzoil Platinum for me (known to not have nearly the same degree of issue). Of course, if you spray methanol, then it's a moot point. I'm very glad I spray methanol - non-issue, even if I didn't have an OCC and ran my EGR active all the time. Dale found this to be true here:

A lot of the conversation centers upon things like volatility and characteristics of various oil vapors from different types of oil. But I'm not a chemical engineer. Too bad we don't have @cld12pk2go in here, since he is. Or maybe @phate can add to the conversation?

I thought people only ran Rotella to help with the smoking turbo issues on the Gen1s? Unless you're constantly pushing your car on the track where engine temps gets higher than normal, I think the thicker Rotella won't be helping the engine. It will be worse if you have a short commute and the oil doesn't heat up enough to properly lubricate the engine. I run Pennzoil Platinum on my car because of the good oil analysis results it gets on our engines.

Anyways, last night I flashed the Stratified E85 Flash Tune after filling up with 4 gallons of E85 and topping off with 93. Didn't get on it on the drive home and the car didn't feel any different. In this morning's commute I was able to wind out 4th gear. I am very pleased with the strong and smooth power delivery with this new map. No knock whatsoever on that 4th gear pull. The commute home later will be the better test though as it is usually hot and humid then.
 
Replaced my pos dead wolo horn with a low/high tone dual horn set up. Then i finally installed a jbr rear sway bar.

Just bring your ride on by and we can battle it our for a while. Granted, you may never go back to CO because you'll be shackled up in my basement but that is neither here nor there at the moment.

Well, this is @mole's old rsb that had chipping red paint. I had to cut the collars off and sand it down. Figured id stick with the green theme, even tho only squirrels and cats will ever see it lol.

I topped off my methanol tank in preparation for Saturday night shenanigans. Does this count?

yes it does lol I did the same thing. I have no low level light although I do have the sensor for it. I just check it every other day or so

I have a 2.25 gallon tank in the spare tire well and also have no level sensor, just top it off every Saturday, usually it's still half full.

For the sake of comparison. I did a hot UOA when then BNR was installed, and another hot check-up UOA two oil changes later. This is with PP 5w30. My car does very well on it with a BNR S3 and running 385/380 @ the wheels. Blackstone said I could go up to 7k intervals, but I'm just sticking with 5k:

They also told me 7,000. I'm running similar numbers on the same turbo. I would run pp without batting an eye, but as it goes...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Exactly my thoughts, too. My Speed loves PP, so sticking with it. It's been another 15k, so I'll probably do another UOA soon. Compression (again, LOL, done it so many times), and leakdown coming up soon, too.
 
See I'm torn, everything was going great on PP, but I figured I'd switch to rotella, really i can't make up my mind uoa on pp vs Rotella soon I suppose (waiting on PP uoa )

You are good with either. If you were running pp, no need to switch. They are both proven to perform well in our cars.

Already made the switch this last oil change (1k km in) bought a few jugs while it was on sale for 18$....

Good to know that it is working fine for other Speeds.

As for me, yesterday I swapped the dirty CS dryflow air filter for a cleaner one that was washed last week. I have two air filters and I rotate them every 6 months or so.

Still trying to get more drive time on the E85 flash tune, but so far one of the improvements I've noticed is smoother power delivery on all gears. 2nd gear and 3rd gear feel much much smoother when getting on it. This is probably more of a difference between their version 2.0 and version 3.0 maps. I'm hoping this coming weekend will be dry so I can do some proper datalogs.
