Why You Should Check Your Fuel Injectors

I really wish I got a picture of this injector BEFORE the seemingly fossilized, encrusted "stream" of brown crud that was attached to the nozzle tip broke off, but as you can see by the copious amounts of brown crud all over this thing that it was pretty dirty. This came out of an engine that was actually running fine. So, it's a good idea to check and clean your injectors and replace the seals just because. Personally, I'd do this every 50k miles. The OEM seals are shit. Period. And it gets incredibly gunky all over the injectors over time, which WILL cause performance issues eventually.

Agreed.

This is how mine looked after 40k on E48. Had them cleaned prior to running E48...

Not sure I get friend pricing haha. So I just pay for the filters and whatever supplies he uses

What injector seals do you have? Get the CS or CP-e ones and you will never have to pull your injectors for the reason mentioned in the 1st post.

Those were cpe. You think I'm dumb enough to not run an upgraded seal, considering my motor has 83k miles and all above 500whp !? Lol. The seals are still on 2 of the Injectors in the first 2 pics

Oh, ok... however it looks like they weren't sealing properly. When I got my CP-e seals they suggested to add some silicone on them (I don't recall, I only remember I bought the exact one they mentioned).

what kind of place cleans injectors? just any random shop? i assume it's not DIY else people here would be doing that. will have to look into seals. my car has around 51k on it.

InjectorRxnis a good place in the idea, graveyard performance offers cleaning and core service for no down time, I found a local guy to me that's all he does there's also a local performance shops around that offer it heck Mazda has a display saying clean your Injectors so I'm sure they could probably point you in the right direction for a local shop too

thanks for the info. i found a youtube vid that shows a guy removing them (i honestly forgot that they were under the intake manifold...fuuuuck. and he cleaned them himself with a very soft scrub pad. i'm not sure that's the best way to do it, but that's just how he did it.

also he did not use a puller for his. he just pryed the rail off and took off a few bolts and apparently just pulled them out. did anyone need to use an injector puller? i see CS pushing theirs when you look at their seals. i'm assuming those CS seals are the ones to get after reading a few old threads.

Go Overspeed seals. Can get some when you send your injectors to graveyard.

I tho

I thot cpe’s seals were the ones that tended to fail? Or am I wrong

All of em can fail if you dont tq them properly and dont have a clean surface inside the head.

I personally reused those cpe seals 3-4 times before they started leaking and have reused overspeed seals 2 times so far with success. Upgrading to the nut/stud combo over the stock torx units helps as well as you can actually properly torque everything down

looks like a nice service. and those seals look to be about on par, cost wise, with others i've seen. seems like a good winter project when i can also check the valves again. that way if their turnaround is on the long side i won't have to have the car sitting. thanks for the tips and suggestions!

just thinking here...y'all think that cleaning/upgrading these seals would get rid of all (if not, most) of KR? not sure what else could cause KR as i'm not a pro at all the inner workings.
