Why You Should Use Headlight Film

I bought Lamin-X clear headlight film back in September 2010, and after almost seven years of abuse, it was looking a little rough.

So I peeled it off and replaced it. The condition of the headlights underneath the film was astounding.

I did absolutely no polishing of the headlights. Just took off the old film. The moral of the story is use headlight film, kids.

I agree, but it is nice to see an actual result. I have film on all of our headlights, and on my MS3, I put in new headlights and immediately had the film applied. Small price ($95) of the film is a lot less than replacing the units!

Very nice! I'm getting another set of headlights and was going to add film. Couldn't decide what brand, was thinking maybe 3m since I've had luck with their other products.

I know this is an old thread, but I was searching headlight threads and found this one. My headlights are not too bad, but they are scuffed a little, particularly along the bottom. I had some thoughts about replacing them with some aftermarket headlights. But I think I decided to keep them. There are of course kits to restore headlights. But after restoring them, I wondered what would be best protection.

I checked Lamin-X, and the precut Mazda 6 films were almost $60, but a 20% off coupon. So, around $45. Seems pretty pricey for film. And at least one guy complained the film didn’t last that long for him, though the OP here was happy with his film. On Amazon, I saw a ceramic headlight coating for $18 that claimed it would last the life of the car. Though it would probably be a pain to get them to send another kit if it doesn’t last. Still, $18 seems a lot better deal then $45.
 
If you use a UV capable film, it would increase the time your lenses stay clear after a polishing. The benefit is the film can be replaced much easier and for less than the lights or lenses. Film isnt for life, you can think of it as a wear item.

My thoughts on Amazon...nothing lasts as long as they say. Lamin-X or any other reputable product will serve you the best.
IMHO never skimp on Tint, film, wrap etc.
