2.3 DISI Turbo MPV bogging down

Hi all, new to the forum, thanks for the add.

I have an issue with 2.3 turbo engine in Mazda MPV 2006. Car starts first time every try. When driving normally shall we say, car drives with no issues except the smell of fuel from exhausts. Put your foot down and once rpm gets to 3,000, it splutters, struggles to accelerate and throws huge amounts of black smoke out the back. Does this in every gear.

So far I have replaced the throttle body, turbo, pre cat O2 sensor, fuel rail pressure sensor, MAF sensor, spark plugs and coils, all to no avail. Checked for vacuum leaks, everything seems ok.

Thinking of stripping HPFP next and resealing but feel like i am just throwing money away at this point.

Is anyone able to offer a suggestion on what this could be or advise what parameters I could check on OBD to try and identify fault.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

First of all stop throwing money at parts
do you have any mods? any CEL?
Black smoke means your running rich, so its likely u have a boost leak, an injector stuck open or a spark plug not firing right (you should get a misfire code for a spark plug not working right)
How many km/miles? injectors ever been serviced?

Thanks for your reply.

Engine has no mods, completely standard. Checked for vacuum leaks, cant find one anywhere. New plugs have been gapped and installed and replaced coils.

Injector stuck open sounds like an option, will try and get them out at the weekend and check.

Cheers

injector seals can cause a vacuum leak and make you run rich, how many miles do you have on the car?

you won't be able to see if its stuck open, have they ever been seviced?
Not during my owner ship. So.eone local is selling a set of injectors that have just been serviced so going to buy them and put them in.

Just checking, will the MPV injectors be the same as a Gen 1 MPS?

What are MPV injectors, also make sure u look into changing the seals and o rings if they haven’t been changed already

Id bet the speed / MPS will be different than whatever came in the mpv, you'll have to cross check part numbers .Also please don't go WOT below 3000 rpm these engines absolutely hate that, good way to loose a rod. even rpm at cruise should be above 2500.

What spark plugs? Gap needs to be 0.027", when replace MAF, coil packs etc have you been using OEM mps (speed) parts? If not that's gonna be a bad time, assuming you're running the MPS ecu in your car?
Boost leak test? Turbo car needs boost test not vac, also how's the ebcs? Did the nipple on it crack?
