AccessPort mounting

well its getting hot out again and the same problem year after year so far still plagues me. Im using 3M double sided foam rubber tape to mount my AP base to the left console just beside the ECS button (gen pu). The hot sun and temps soften the adhesive and eventually the AP ends up on the floor.

What is anyone else doing for mounting?

I use the JBR mount, but have a sweet cell phone mount that works too.

That is the same exact problem I have and same location I like to mount it.

I think I am going to secure it in the same location, with some small self tapping screws.

Try this:

Mountek nGroove Universal CD Slot Mount for Cell Phones and GPS Devices

I reappropriated the two-prong mount from my old Garmin. The holster that comes with the AP clips right on as if they were made for one another.

The mentioned two-prong mounting system is Arkon's. On

the cell phone holder part comes off leaving only the mounting base with the two prong thing to which the AP mount can be easily attached. At least for the v3. I use the first one of those two because the fewer joints in the system the better.

The only downside to this is that when the AP is not in the holder, the holder isn't super well attached to the mount so it buzzes some. It's pretty subtle and not that big a deal though.

Ah, for some reason I can see the pictures in your post. Edit: looks like its my ad blocker. Turned it off, and they show up.
No worries. I wasn't even complaining that you were duplicating, just pointing out that it was the same for OP's benefit.

I just whitelisted this site in my adblocker this morning for the same reason, the amazon stuff wasn't showing up. adblock <3 <3

I have the first one that @John posted up. The "
Arkon Windshield Dashboard Car Mount Holder for Apple iPhone 5S 5C 4S 4 3GS and iPod touch"

I like it a lot. It works and doesn't fall off the windshield. And it's cheap. Can't beat cheap.

I use a magnet mount on my center vent (Gen1). I can't remember exactly what it's called, but it's marketed as a generic phone/GPS mounting system. When my AP is not up all you see is the small magnet about the size of a dime clipped to the vent...it's very discreet. There's a small piece of metal that sticks to the back of the AP so it just snaps in place when I put the AP up near it. It has worked well for me for both my V2 and now my V3.

For an even cleaner install I have run my AP cable under the dash so it is completely hidden when not in use. When it is being used the only part of the cable seen runs from near the shifter up to the mounting point. At the OBD port I got an OBD Y-cable so that I can still plug something else into my OBD port without having to unplug my AP and wired in an on/off switch (from before I got the V3). I'll be out in the garage later, I can snap pictures if anyone happens to be interested.

Excellent... I think i'll give this a try. I like the idea of mounting to the windshield. Thanks for the replies fellas..

This thread made me finally fix my hanging/falling ap.

I had it attached to the dash near the traction control button using, heavy duty plastic velcro type shit. Worked well for a long time, but the Texas heat makes all adhesives fail eventually.

Sooooo...I left it in the same spot and put two self tapping screws on the mount plate. Super secure now and I am happy. The screws were 97 cents at Walter Martinez.

Didn't want rings on my windshield from suction cups or tape on my dash.
No rings if you leave the fucker on the windshield all the time. It's not like people are like "ooo, three empty cell phone mounts in that car, must have a phone I can steal". Not anymore. Unless you park every day in the deep ghetto...

I had that 3M tape melt off within two days of mounting my AP. Bought this thing off Amazon for 13 bucks and it hasn't come off yet.

I've got the same mount. It works great and it's only fallen twice after sitting in the hot sun for half a day.

tapatalk, it sucks

I use one of the Amazon suction phone holders, but I think a Steelie would work great on the dash. The steelie holds my 6S+ iPhone fairly well.
