Audible Knock

new poster, I have a 07 MS3 mods are Forged BPV, Cobb SF intake, Cobb catback and CP-E catless downpipe

Been having a problem with KR in 5th gear when accelerating and hitting boost I have been hearing an audible knock with the KR values hitting anywhere from .30-4.50, no matter the value i hear the knock, I am pretty new to the platform would like to take all precautions, i had the normal Cylinder 3 Misfire and changed Plugs and Coils working on getting new Injectors with new seals but until them both problems still persist, any Insite about KR and the issue would be greatly appreciated think you.

Would also like to add that car runs and drives normal only Knocks with a considerable amount of throttle in 5th gear, if kept out of boost there's never any knock

very odd to me that it only happens in boost in 5th, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th have no problems when in boost

I havent taken any logs yet but its pretty consistent at 5000-5500rpm, Will take logs and post them

How often are you in boost at 5000 rpm in fifth? That's like 140 mph

Which points more towards something banging around under the hood

117k timing is certainly due, hope you have a hpfp internal upgrade in there.

does it happen in 3rd or 4th? is this a 5th gear log where you're rolling into WOT at 2454 rpm? what the actual shit, you should never been going WOT under 3k rpm and if you're doing it in 5th you should have run out 4th already. good news is atleast hpfp is holding pressure

I do have HPFP, the pull in the Data log was 3rd to 4th Gear

Any possibility the HPFP is causing problems i put it in 6 or so years ago

phew that's good that's it's not a 5th gear pull like that. my reaction was because over the years that's been a legit thing people have sent us.

hpfp pressure doesn't seem to dip to me. log review isn't my strong suit so hopefully Bunny reviews it for you.

how's the car sound when you cold start it? can you describe the knock you hear?

sounds normal on cold start it has a nice smooth idle as is the same with day to day driving, only hear the knock when spirited driving

if I had to describe the knock, it sadly sounds like a rod knock, but i really dont think its that as i just drove the car 4 hours round trip with no issues and no knock, again it only happens when spirited driving, which is why im so lost on why and where it comes from

searching around it seems that rod knock at higher rpm points to the start of rod bearing failure
I was honestly thinking that as well, which sucks but this is original engine and from what I remember previous owner wasn't too nice to the car, the downpipe and intake were on the car when i bought it and it had no tune so it was bound to fail at some point, i put a OTS tune on it until i got a base map from my tuner, thankfully i have a spare low mileage engine in my garage looks like it's time to do the swap, this engine did me well for the last 6 years though
