Hey MazdaSpeed Club!

The Speed3 finally made it back to Sonoma after a long hiatus. The last time I drove the Speed3 here was way back in 2019 with a PB of 1:58. A lot has changed since then, both for the track and for me.

Temps were high 60s/ low 70s with mostly clear sky. Ton of high end cars at the event. I was driving Open 2 group with sub 1:50 vehicles seeming to be the norm for the day. But it's no problem getting out of the way of the faster guys. Threw down a fast lap early in session two and set a new Speed PB of 1:55. So far the day's just flying by like any other event. Until…

Unfortunately during the middle of session 3, I understeered off track at turn 10 and came back around on track to contact the very end of the tire barrier (almost missing it entirely, wouldn't that have been nice), which deployed my driver airbag and abruptly ended my day. In short, the front end was obliterated from the impact and would require just about everything from the radiator forward. With limited time, space and funds to rebuild or source a new donor/host vehicle I'm very sad to say it's time for me to part ways with my Speed. I've loved owning this car for years and planned to keep it for many more. Thankful I was able to walk away but sad for my car.

Thanks for looking and see you around!

That really sucks man. I'm sorry to hear. Roller cars come up frequently, the wild card is if frame horns are bent.
