Building for the road course...again

It is nice to know for sure I will say. At least this won’t happen again.

New build is just gonna be an oem+ k20. I’ll do a head package, cams/springs. Oem short block. Good for 8800rpm and should still be competitive.

that’s going to be the 2025 setup while I plan whatever engine build is next

Yeap. The wrist pin was definitely way under spec for this application.

Based on the rest of the engines wear this thing would’ve lasted at least a good 2 seasons with a proper wrist pin. Bummer.

Well, I sent an email to Wiseco on the Tuesday. I got a reply back stating "Reach out to Wiseco Canada and ask for this guy"

After some googling it turns out the guy they want me to contact is the general manager of wiseco Canada.

I forwarded the reply I got to wiseco Canada's email. I havent heard anything. Since Tuesday.

Today I called wiseco and asked to talk to the guy. The girl who answered the phone was like "Oh...is this Tom? Yea we know who you are, we are working on a possible solution. We will get back to you soon."

Either theyre gonna tell me to F off really nicely, OR theyre gonna try to put the blame somewhere else.

its surprising they knew who I was right away...Im sure there is some talking of this incident going on at their shop since i did buy the parts directly from them after stating my intended use case like 25 times.

Maybe they'll cover the bill on a new build...

Ended up getting a reply from the General manager of Wiseco Canada. He asked me to call him directly.

Spoke with him. I have mixed feelings.

His first question for me was "how much HP were you making?"

Well we all know how irrelevant that question is. I answered him and then mentioned this is an RPM related failure and I wasn't making enough HP to hurt anything.

He was all "oh yea ok thats not the problem here. Our wrist pins should have been fine for you but we also offer a heavy duty pin." I mentioned how the HD pin was never mentioned to me or offered to me after i was very clear about my application.

He said he is currently discussing this with head office in Ohio and they may ask for my rods/pistons for inspection. I will get an update tomorrow hopefully.

Im not sure whats going to happen here but at very least he can send me some free pistons. They can keep the wrist pins.

The pins can be hammered out. I hammered one out. It just destroys the small end rod bushing which is replaceable at least.

I’m hoping they send me some pistons. That would be cool. I’ll then use the correct wrist pin lol.

We’ll see. Hopefully I hear tomorrow

We all know this.

By correct wrist pin I meant I’ll use a different brands. One shop I spoke to mentioned CP wrist pins being the bestest and I could use those. Will definitely not run a wiseco wrist pin unless they make me something special

Had a track day this past sunday.
My fastest lap here.

Theoretical best is 6 tenths off what I was able to achieve. The track definitely didn't have the grip is usually does. Farmer in the field next door was running the combine the entire day sending dust EVERYWERE but what can you do. Ah well

Funny that this lap is exactly 1 second slower then my best with my built motor. I am down 6KPH(4mph roughly) on the main straight plus 3-4 KPH on all the shorter straights. I also spend sometime on the rev limiter. Is what it is. This lap would've taken first place back in july during competition. I like that.

Something I noticed in this video. It’s not like I didn’t already know but man does my engine see some serious usage. So much WOT time. Like so much. Thing just lives between 6500-8500. Sure few times I might be down around 4500rpm but then it’s WOT allllll the way to redline. Serious usage lol. Much abuse.

I know so many people who are less committed and are constantly short shifting or lifting early. I guess that’s more common then I thought vs how im driving these days

I mean the point of tracking a Honda is the resilience to have the absolute shit beat out of the motor
Yeap. That’s a big part of it.

Driving how I do now, I’m not sure how long a Mazdaspeed engine would last. Not to talk any shit but yea. It’s a lot of abuse out there when you’re really squeezing the car.

Most modern shit can’t even do 2 laps without overheating

Most modern shit is designed to meet the bare minimum for commuter traffic.
I know. Yet it all gets marketed as “track weapon come pick up this civic type R or this fucking dumb Corolla for 60k and have the best 2 lap session of your life”

It’s fucking terrible.
