Building for the road course...again

I call it hibernation. I only go outside if I have to, lol. Im thinking of taking my car for a final fill up on Tuesday. After that the daily highs are below the recommended temps for my tires.

Its been a storied year for you. Keep it up, there is always next year to prepare for. Ill see if I can drop in on one of your events in '26.

Whats your go to for cleaning the brake dust?
I used to use a chemical guys product called decon. Basically a straight wheel acid. As aggressive as it gets. That stuff worked amazing.

It’s no longer available in Canada which sucks. Lately I’ve been using basic stuff from Canadian tire. Meguiars ultimate all wheel cleaner. It seems to work well enough. Sometimes a little scrubbing is needed but it does work

Once again us Canadians get screwed on good products. I've been using Adam's Deep Wheel Cleaner, but I've got some really stubborn brake dust that's not coming off.

Yea we get screwed all the time. No more real brake clean has been killing me since its basically all i can use in my garage to clean stuff up.

The chemical guys product was crazy good at removing the really stubborn stuff. I havent found anything that works as well yet. Will revisit in 2026.

In other news,

Went for a nice 260km round trip on saturday to pick up the deal of the year.

K20 long block that has had some work done. Short block is oem untouched. Seems to be in great shape. Lots of nice cross hatch visible. Turns over nice and easy.

This came with an RBC cylinder head which I need for my current engine build. The head was cleaned up and decked by the sellers machine shop and it looks great. I will have my machine shop do the valves and valve guides of course.

RBC head by itself pulls a $500 asking price here. They are not cheap.

I paid $300cad for this package. That’s like 150usd lol. Very inexpensive for what it is.

I stripped the block down yesterday.

Engine is very clean. Crank and all bearings are in perfect shape. Minimal signs of any wear. Engine rotates over very nice.

One cylinder had some crap in it however. It left a nice scratch in the bore. I believe with a 0.020 over bore it should be a non issue but if it doesn’t clean up I’ll either toss the block or buy some big nippon racing (china) 87mm pistons and we’ll play with that. I’ll use it for a spare engine build or something.

Keep in mind I currently have a short block at the machine shop and I also have the entire long block currently still in my car. The engine in my car will become the spare for 2026 while I build something else on the side.

I now have in my collection
3x good usable k20 cranks
4x valve covers
3x oil pans
3x vtec rocker roller assembly’s with cam towers
3x k20z3 short blocks
2x RBC cylinder heads

I have 2 or 3 k20 water pump housings
So many things lol

Also decided to get the track pads off the car. Figured if im gonna drive it at all before snow comes the street pads would be much nicer.
Best brake pads I’ve used to date. 9 events and ~1000km street. Will be going with these for 2026 again

Here's all the proof you need.
Note that everything was so filthy and covered in sticky shit that the button retainer thingy would stick to almost anything (as seen below)

damn that makes it very clear. Lighter fluid is cheap and easy enough to get. Works amazing looks like

now you need to devise some overhead storage system so that your engine parts horde can continue to grow.
Yea this needs to happen asap. I would like the parts horde to grow. Got some good stuff here and these k20's seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper.

The space in my garage where i was gonna store my current long block is now being taken up by the short block i bought sooooooooo when i pull this engine out i dont know where its gonna go. This will be a problem

With my history and my engines being 100% consumable I am definitely gonna keep a spare at all times lol.

The cost of doing business I guess!

Thankfully the entire world is obsessed with k24 leaving the k20’s for me!!
