[SOLVED] Car dies while driving and then won't start for a couple hours.

I'm having a curious issue with my MS6.

I was driving it late at night when the engine suddenly died, and while it could crank it wouldn't start. The fuel pump wasn't priming. I had to get the car towed home, but when I tried troubleshooting more in the morning it started up without issue. I went for a simple drive to see if I could recreate it, and eventually after like 20 minutes of driving it died again. The in-tank fuel pump, again, wouldn't prime and the car wouldn't start, but after over an hour of sitting on the side of the road, the car was able to start up fine without issue and get me home.

I'm assuming it's probably the fuel pump or perhaps the fuel pump relay, but I wanted some other opinions as I'm not confident in that diagnosis. Any help is appreciated.

Perhaps checking voltages at the pump connector would be valuable when the car is acting up. Would be expensive and intensive to replace the pump and have it be wiring related.

Did you happen to notice if it had a high pitch whine, kinda near the drivers rear wheel? Replaced mine as well just over the weekend for that concern but wondered if it was actually going or me just tripping. Either way, it had almost 180k on it

I never heard any sort of high-pitched whine, but it was real inconvenient when it left me stranded, so I say you did the right thing lmao.

It was the in-tank fuel pump, it was overheating, I haven't had any issues since changing that out.

I’m currently having the same issues you were. Do you mind me asking where you bought your pump from and did you buy just the pump or the whole assembly?
