Car loses/cuts power in 4th and 5th gear

Hey what’s everybody happy 4th of July! I’m having some issue with my car that I have no idea what could be going on. When I’m driving my car down the highway and at times I’ll go WOT in 4th and 5th gear and my car feels like it loses power or stops running to full potential around 4500rpm or sometimes happens above that. I’ve seen that happen a few times before and it stopped for a while and now it happened again today so now I’m worried. I’m always looking at my Cobb AP when I go WOT on those gears for that reason ever since and today I saw that when that happened I get like 4.00-6.00 knock retard and that’s when I left off thinking something bad is happening. My car has HPFP internals, Corksport catback exhaust, 2.5in intake and turbo inlet pipe, Corksport TMIC, and eBay BOV and tuned by edge on a flash tune for 91.

How much boost are you running or trying to hit? If you exceed the MAP sensors limit or hit the cut then it's going to stop pulling immediately. When you're part throttle it won't do it as bad because you probably aren't hitting the load/boost limit

What is the stock MAP sensors limit? But It doesn’t stay at a steady boost but typically it’s around 18 and it’ll peak at 20-20.5 at times in those gears.

I swear ive been datalogging all day yesterday and today and well thankfully it hasnt done it again but Incant ever catch it now while datalogging. But here is a 4th gear WOT when I kind of caught it happening a hour ago.

Constant KR, AFRs in the mid-high 10s, no timing (probably due to the knock) and intake temps in the 11x deg range.

At first glance everything else looks fine. What gas are you using (brand, octane) and what oil are you using?

Im on pump 91, I’ve used gas from Shell and also at king soopers fuel pumps a lot and I thought it might’ve been that and started pumping at Sinclair and the same result. And I use to use Penzoil platinum 5w-30 and now I’ve been using Rotella t6 5w-40.

1. Don't mix oils
2. When you change oils your next oil change interval should be pretty fast since not all oils will mix well (could be a problem later)
3. Pull your plugs, post pics of them; also check intercooler (hot and cold side) and throttle body for oil residue
4. While you do that, check for loose hardware, clamps, etc

No i havent mixed oils I meant as in after an oil change I went from penzoil to rotella but I mean hopefully not much was left to mix in. But perfect timing then this week it is due for all of that so I’ll check all of that forsure! I appreciate input Enki!

Here are the plugs lined up from left to right standing in front of the engine. What do you guys think?

Looks like the knock is real. Did you check the intercooler / TB for oil residue?

Yeah I think it is because the far left one is even bent from where you gap them. What would that mean? But yes there was a bit of oil residue on both side.

So either your rings are fucked or your turbo is fucked. If it's smoking bad frequently (decel, accel from stop) it's probably rings, but all the time would probably be turbo. Based on finding oil residue in the piping, probably rings or possibly shitty pcv setup, depending on how much oil is present. If your downpipe is still catted, it might be eating all the smoke and will probably fail/clog before too long.

Well it honestly doesn’t smoke at all thank god whether it’s from decel or accel from stop but it does eat up a lot of oil. And I actually am still with my stock down pipe, would I have to upgrade based off all the mods I have already? I think that’s all I need to pretty much be full bolt on.

No, all the smoke is adhering to your cat. If you swapped downpipes it would probably smoke bad. Looks like it might be a genpu so you *might* be able to pull the oil cap at idle without throwing oil all over the bay and see if smoke comes out there. Car might run a bit weird and/or stall though.

would getting maybe a high flow catted down pipe from like Corksport help in anyway? I’ve been looking into getting that either way already. And so if I do that, what would it mean if smoke actually comes out ?

If your engine smokes, it's gonna fuck up your cats to the point where either it will throw a code, reduce performance, hurt the engine further or all of the above.

If it does smoke and is consuming oil (which it is, so probably smokes too) then you need to do something about getting it fixed. How long have you owned this car before it started having this issue? If you recently bought it, then the prior owner probably hurt the engine and sold it to you without saying anything.

Wouldn't help in any way, if anything in the event it is your turbo you would make it worse.
