No I completely understand now. I hate to admit it but I connected the cables wrong at the trans when I re-installed the engine. I was in a hurry to get it done. Probably why my cable snapped. But with 220K miles on the car it was probably going to happen soon anyways. What a dumb mistake.Not sure why you think I'm annoyed; I just think that what I said is already at the most basic level I can make it. If anyone else can chime in, they are more than welcome to do so.
For anyone running across this post (sorry for the reviving of the necro thread) Midwest has a 6 month lead time. I asked them recently as my OEM cables broke. Another option is contacting Michael Rey on Facebook in the mazdaspeed6 owners group. Pricey but sexy cables. $550 a set.
Hey Trithemius,
I just wanted to verify something. Not sure if you'll come across this. I cant PM you yet. Is the cable at the center of the shifter the one that connects to the fore/aft arm with the counterweight at the transmission? I replaced my cables with OEM ones this weekend and want to make sure i put them back in the right place. If anyone can confirm (and it may seem like a dumb question to some) I'd really appreciate it!
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/qKR2-DFrda4Got it all put back together lastnight. My cables must have been really stretched as its much more precise and positive now.
Hey,Reviving this old thread
I will likely get a local shop to fabricate the bracket. Does anyone have any tips or want to join for a group buy?
Hey,
so, 3 or 6 or both?
the bracket gets made after the cable itself is chosen, yea ?
I am also in a no rush need for 6 cables {200K+}
the 3, 60K but still, its all apart, why not.
Should this get to that point, having the bracket {s} as a CAD file, sent to sendcutsend as a 10 pc deal,,,, more gooder
I'd potentially be down for this too; I'd really like some kind of option for shimming the ball or another full replacement akin to TWM but without the total suck.
No idea, but I've heard some people make them out of soda cans. (I am talking about fixing shifter ball/socket slop, btw).@Enki what side do you want the shims on?
@Maisonvi Here's the bracket drawings for the MS6. My drawing skills suck, and there's mixing of units, sorry about that. Everything was done with 1/8 inch plate.

@HawkeyeGeoff Here's a picture of the firewall bracket and a 1st grade representation of what I did with it.

The red represents cutting. I cut the little clamps off and cut slits down what was left to make pushing the cables through easier. I also removed the nuts and washers and end links from the cables so that there was only a 5/8 inch assembly going through the rubber. I didn't do anything to secure it, but you could add injector clamps on to the rubber afterwards to keep it secure/seal it.
Nice!I had one cable start to get REALLY bad a couple weeks ago and the car is nearly impossible to put in reverse. After reading through this thread, I've ordered 57" cables from MidWest control of the Armor (standard) core type with stainless rod ends. $220 shipped, and I'll whip up a bracket when they get in.
