Effects of high eth content on fuel level sensor

I just figured there would be something keeping the first gen from working correctly

I'm pretty sure he's looking into non basket replacements. You know, less expensive options.
At this point a modified gen 1 basket is cheaper than going fuel cell to correct a miniscule problem. The journey continues. I'll see if i can find a used gen 1 basket somewhere.

And I'm dead. Ordered a brand new OEM fuel pump basket for an 09 gen 1. Opened the box and found the fuel level sensor/sender wasn't included. Guess I'll have to return this and find a used basket assembly lol

I did some looking at part numbers for fuel pump assembly, I have found 3 different ones for the gen 1 speed3, two of which appear to come with the sensor the other not.

L34B-13-35ZA Basket and pump only

LF66-13-35XG Basket, pump and sensor

LF67-13-35XE Basket, pump, sensor and tophat (complete unit by the looks of things)

L34B-13-35ZA is what I ordered from tasca. The other 2 look completely different than the photo Enki showed me of his gen 1 basket. So I went with that PN.
I'm talking to a dude right now who has 2 extra baskets from a gen 1. He's willing to pull off the level sensor and ship it to me. For reference, his also looks like this

They do look different, just going by tasca's listed compatibility haven't looked at it from a Mazda dealer like Jim Ellis, found it interesting that there seemed to be 3 variations

He's sending me just the level sensor. Hopefully, this puts this issue to bed for good. Crossing my fingers. Oddly enough, it doesn't appear any different than all of the level sensor boards I have experimented with so far.

Wtf

@Rokusek got a used one?

I have 4 complete pump and housing assemblies at home with sending units.

if you have more issues that is. Sorry for the delay in response.

Yeah and the level sender itself is discontinued. So gen 1 owners will have a hard time finding a replacement

Yeah, just buy and have a couple on hand when you see them for sale. I am a firm believer in having at least a complete cars worth of spare parts. :)

@iamareios IF this one he is sending doesn't resolve the issue let me know.

@Rokusek I just dropped the basket back in with his gen 1 sensor. Comparing it with others, it looks to be the same materials used for the terminal ends contacting the board. Really crossing my fingers it doesn't die in a few days!

Good to know you have some extra basket assemblies. Thank you. A known seller on Facebook named Javier has 4 complete assemblies as well. He said he would sell them complete for $80. So if this one dies, I'll probably end up getting another and doing the solder trick I proved to help

If you can find those style terminals somewhere else, maybe you can set up a small side business of selling the reworked level senders that use non-corroding connectors.

I don't even know what those style terminals are called lol

So glad I just found this thread. I was about to put a full replacement bucket into my gen 2 from a junkyard mz3, but I see I'll run into the same issue again I'll try the soldering method as well. I'm very curious to see what my current bucket looks like. Will post pix as soon as I can.

Welcome to the pony show. So far the gen 1 level sender I put in a few days ago is holding up. Problem is they are discontinued from mazda. Only option is to find someone selling a whole gen 1 basket.

Can you get me more images from many angles? I'll try searching with some cut down images or something
Anything for you Enk.

Not really finding anything. Wonder if you could electroplate them with nickel or something for better longevity...Or is it the sensor part thats corroding (not the wire connectors)?
