Well before the Machine ship, I need to purchase my rods and pistons first. I am looking at the CP Pistons and Manley H series Rods combo.
CP Pistons at stock compression ratio 9.5:1 with the piston bore at standard. THe Manley Rods will be 22.5mm (stock) with ARP 625 rod bolts for increased strength and durability.
No kidding? The more you know... LOL. I just rarely see them used (I actually know of only 1 build that did, and it failed within 1k miles or so - but that was a spun bearing, so not related). I selected this based on longevity and durability. I think I amt an intermediate level but or a build, I am new to this. I am also looking to into Mahle and Manley. I just want to build one time and hopefully have a reliable block that will last over 70K. I am looking at Mahle 2618 Pistons and Manley Platinum Series Pistons to see what will work best.Bad idea, cp pistons dont come in 22.5 iirc
I am looking into that. I not looking to have a full race car. I want a DD (a must) and a sleeper if possibleCP is really popular in some circles. They make NASCAR pistons too, IIRC, but I'd personally go with Mahle, Manley, or Wiseco based on the results on our platform.
22mm on edge.double check that cp makes pistons with a 22.5 wristpin. Last I checked, they were all 22...although I do believe manley offers a rod that matches

What's your power goal? If longevity is a concern too, why not go 4032s? South of 500whp, they'll be totally fine according to the piston engineer who designed them, so long as you're running lots of alky. You could use performance coatings on them to get an even greater safety layer too, I'd imagine...
Edit: just saw that you mentioned 650whp in the OP. You'll need 2618s, I'd say. 4032s are characteristically known for a longer service life, though. Modding is just full of compromises: give a little here to get a little there, as we all know, LOL![]()

I like the fact that some of the offerings are DI-optimized in design too, having the pocket similar to what you find on Genpu pistons to help fuel swirl/atomization. Those CPs look like a Won piston compared to these Mahles, for instance:I meant bad idea because the 22mm wrist pins that come with cp pistons wouldnt work well with manley rods made for the 22.5mm wrist pin. I have nothing against cp pistons, they are in my engine with carrillo rods.

Yeah, "good enough" is plenty for many manufacturers. And I personally don't think you'd feel any difference. The fact that Mazda engineers decided it was worthwhile goes very far with me, though. I'll be running pocketed pistons. The GRAFAL coating is irrelevant to me. I won't be running these particular Mahle's anyways, but the 4032s. I like the advancements of the state of the art in DI piston design and will definitely avail myself of them.Yup had manleys with coatings and the pocket, noticed no difference. I believe this should be a great set up with great results. This week, I will visit a few other machine ships to get some quotes. Arce Engines is on my radar but I wanted to see what the residents recommendations results come down to especially price wise.
It is good to know that coating the pistons doesn't make any difference in performance and/or results because I was looking into that especially how on many websites, they talk so great about it.
