Gen 1 Speed3 ECU Help

Hi all, does anyone have any info regarding the JDM vs USDM Speed3 ECU? I have a japanese gen 1 with an ECU with a broken pin and is probably fried, so any info would be appreciated

I would compare part numbers. I know if programmed already. It's a 50/50 shot of it working. Dealerships won't reimburse if it fails either.

To be clear, jdm ms3? Like for Japan? Not built in Japan for us market?

I've found a few US models that are almost the same part number (ex. L33X-18-881C, whereas mine is L33X-18-881H) but I haven't been able to determine how much, if any, difference there is.

Yup, the car was imported from Japan which complicated things further as it only has a 10 digit chassis code as opposed to a regular VIN, so the dealerships I've spoken with stateside aren't able to look anything up for me

The difference in designation may be wether or not it is CA or Federal emissions. Japan of course has their own emissions laws and standards but if you look at the part number it's basically the same.

My advice would be to call a US dealership, ask them the difference in part numbers between Federal/California emissions and wether or not it's Automatic/Manual.

FWIW I'm sure that the ECUs are internally the same. If they are manual drivetrain. The only difference would be in programming. For example

A California car may be equipped with an Air Pump to help cold start emissions. The ECU itself is the same but the programming either enables or disables the pins in the ECU itself when it's operating. Kinda like when you do an EGR delete. You're really just turning off codes so the computer doesn't check to see if that circuit is active

Many thanks for the feedback! I went ahead and ordered a used L33X-18-881D (vs. my 881H) to try out. If I'm able to get it programmed by the Ford dealership here (no Mazda dealership on Island), great. If not, It was a $64 experiment that didn't work out.

I wasn't able to get much help from any US dealerships as my car doesn't have the 17 digit VIN, so this is my best bet.

In any case, I'll come back to update whether or not I was able to get it to work. There's a thread by @jcolton on here about programming an ECU, so I'll have to give that a go as well.
