JohnnyTightlips Build "Maximum Carnage"

Update:
I took the valve cover off and checked timing, the motor is in time but for some reason the teeth are off on the crank pulley. There is no sign of slippage but something must have changed at some point. Either way I was determined to fix it so I did.

TDC pin in , cams where they should be and piston 1 at TDC. I did also OHM check my VVT solenoid and the one of the car was a little out of spec so I went back to my gross looking OEM one that is still in spec. I don't think that changed anything.

I did clean the VVT filter as well, it did not look dirty at all. it's under that where my finger is pointing to.

20th Tooth in red, sensor reach maxed.

Ghetto fix, I used quicksteel to make an extension for it. The bottom bolt is doing all the real work but I added the top to make me feel better inside.

AND I switched to e50 because I was running into knock with e30. Timing fix was a success and I am getting closer to being done. I am having trouble getting good logs in 4th as I run out of traction up top. Probably need to air down the fronts a little and get some heat into them.

Orange is NOW , Pink is when it was still on tooth 19.5 "-3 ish degrees off still on entire timing map" I know there is a major boost difference but when the timing was off before you could keep adding boost and it would do nothing. Now it helps so I brought it back in.

Pretty happy with the tune where it is. It is pretty nutso and way too much for DD life lol. I might in the future play with boost by gear and try to get my first 3 gears back.

Could always just get some tires that actually will hold the power...

Just sayin'

How smooth is your engine running now? Do you still get that awful vibration that our engines are known for between 2700-3200rpms?

Unless he added cylinders that bad harmonic resonance is going to be there

You are right, but I have always wondered if the shaking is exaggerated by other factors. Some being a slight slip of timing, the IM flow imbalance, or slight weight imbalance of the crank.

I'll update soon just not been doing too much with the car. I did a pull in spring only wastegate today and will see what the vdyno says in a bit lol.

Update:

Ran a new wire to my fuel pump as I was not sure the stock wire could support the amps it takes. https://mazdaspeeds.org/index.php?t...lcat-525lph-or-any-big-lpfp.11315/#post-83718

Found out that @Maisonvi hellcat pump setup still works fine with low fuel "2 gal in the tank" Just filled the car up with 93 as I am going to try and get a 93 tune done before winter hits. Car has been running well otherwise. I did also add a vent to my valve cover and will make a how to for that. Seems to be working well and does not spray oil like my vent I had on the oil fill cap. For right now it just goes to a filter until I can figure some kinda catch can. The check valve is only needed if you run the other side of the valve cover to the intake. I am changing that soon too.

Tiny Update:

I have heard from multiple people that the timing wheel is pressed onto the crank pulley and it can slip out of time. I believe this was my issue earlier. Sounds like the only way to fix it is to take it off the car and put it back into time, then get it tack welded so it does not move again. I am not sure when I will be doing this but I would rather it not move anymore and me not be aware of it. Sounds like it might be a winter project. I will post a thread on it if/when I go about fixing it.
