Maisonvi's never ending build

Figured I would start off my first post on the new forum and make up a post of my build as it has happened (to the best of my memory) from beginning to end.

July 2010: Bought my 2008.5 Metro Grey MS3 with 19k miles on it. Came with a CP-E CAI and HTP Inlet pipe, otherwise stock as hell.

2010-12: Did almost nothing to the car for 2 years so I could pay it off. Bought a hypertech at one point (didn’t know any better, plus I got it for cheap). After 2 years is when things started to go down hill…

Day I got her:

2013: The year when the modding addiction started

Over the next year or so I bought an AP and, then a downpipe, then a front mount. Then in April 2013 my OEM turbo had had enough so I all in with a GT3071, HTP 3.5” intake, Freektune, new tires and all the goodies needed to go fast.

Justin had a hell of a time tuning my spike happy GT3071, so I picked up and EWG manifold and we got that shit dialed in

Did my first track day on that set up and it was a blast. Swapped out the OEM suspension for koni yellows and cobb springs.

Where it all started going down hill:

2014: The year of the paper towel

So late in 2013 when I was working on my car I cleaned out some blow-by oil from my intake (no catch can yet) and I must have left some paper towel in there. (Trust me, I was sufficiently mocked, and rightfully so).

At the time I was broke and found some back woods shop that put a 6 blade by 55x76mm on my turbo and made it the franken-turbo it now is. I have been very lucky that this has held up for as well as it has. Turbo spools super fast and has reached pretty damn good power up to this point.

“New” turbo in, and still broke, I decided to give my best try to tune myself. Rob from hypnotic was the biggest help here. Guy was amazing and helped me every step of the way. Not just told me what to do, but really explained why he was recommending doing one thing or another.

Old and busted and New Hotness:

2015: The year of the motor build

I picked up a motor over the winter that the short block was assembled by freektune. Ported my head on my own, and assembled it all together. With the help of Geoff and a few others we knocked it out in a weekend and got it up and running after lots and lots of set backs.

Also over the winter added a TR1035 intercooler core and under route piping, AIS meth system with 2.5 gal tank and a DIY throttle body plate. Towards the end of the year picked up some sexy gold RPF1s and a few other things.

2016: Running out of mods to buy

As far as plans for 2016, looking at all new gauge set up, I have a Wilwood BBK to install, redoing all the meth lines to stainless steel and working on my own DIY port injection set up that will go with a JMF V2 manifold I snagged.

Hopefully I will be able to hit the track a bit more this summer, but we shall see.

I will update more as things progress.

As she sits now:

Actually got a couple hours to do some work last night. Started running the stainless lines for my meth kit. Ive decided AN fittings are the worse thing in the world to put together. Maybe Im just terrible at it, but I really hope they dont leak.

Also, mounted a bracket for my solenoid and my fan controller and eventually an injector controller. So many wires....I hate wires....

It will never be over. Welcome brother. Good to see your Jedi training is going well.

So I did some work this weekend. Safety wired up and mounted my new front brakes:

The rear brake line on the passenger size is so seized im not sure what to do. The plan was to pull the calipers, clean them up, rebuild them with all new seals and then paint them black. Well I cant get the e-brake cable out or the nut off the hard line. So...not sure what to do there.

Also spent many hours with hurty fingers making stupid AN lines: Meth system is so much cleaner now though. Runs all the way back to the trunk.

Lastly, got the JMF installed. Looks awesome in the black anodize. Fueling system is still in the works, but I put the injectors in so I didnt have a giant boost leak. I really need to get some sort of engine dress up soon.

Sexy front brakes are sexy. That rear situation... ugh. It doesn't seem like any solution is going to be cheap/easy. It seems like the solution is likely to be some combination of cut off/re-flare, and possibly fab a small piece of tubing to get back to the bracket.

Yeah the plan was to do the mazda 5 conversion, so I can still do that, but I will have to stay with the stock line for now. Maybe I can get it to a shop were they can swap it for me.

@ALPINEST4RS what would you guys charge to swap that line for me?

We can do it at your hose. Free x100 for what you've done for me. We can also run a whole new line if you want too.

Haha what I've done for you? If anything I owe you for all your help.

But really if I can rebuild my spare rears I would love to swap out the calipers when I fix the line, but I can get the stupid ebrake cable out of the calipers.

I can do it! You've hooked me up with some stuff. That is plenty for me. So let me know when its going down.
When I get back from my trip I will rebuild my spare calipers and then we can find a time to swap them. Thanks man!

Bump, I am bored at work and want to see updates, no matter how small or insignificant.

(yes I'm doing this in all build threads lol)

Had a hell of a time bleeding all my brakes systems. I think I have got all the air out of them now, so hopefully this weekend I can get her off the stands. I need to look at the tune too, because it ran like shit the last time I started it. Not sure if its a leak, or just the JMF causing issues.

I know my JMF is pissing air out right now. I had one of those Sikky TIG's but I'm getting a new OEM tonight to try. Hopefully that brings my AFR's back into check

Yeah I have some old Sure PTFE TIGs that I trimmed. I guess I will see if they are the issue or not. I know adaptive was talking about making some single runner tigs.

As my build continues everything seems to be difficult for me and take more time that I plan for.

Im working on my PI set up. Got the manifold in after being stupid and breaking my fuel pressure sensor. Luckily I had a spare and got that in and set I think. Wiring the split second with zero instructions is proving to be a ton of fun. Thanks for all the people helping me figure shit out.

Last night was also trying to get all my AN fittings plumbed. Im trying out Fragola 8000 lite series fittings, and putting them together is proving to be way harder than I thought it was going to be. I need to go buy a heat gun and become the hulk to put these together I think. Hopefully in the end it will seal up nice and look good though.

I leave for a work trip next week, so Im trying to crank out as much of this as I can this week but we will see where it ends up tomorrow night when Im all done. The in tank pump is going to have to wait for another day I think.

Well shit is up and running. Thank goodness. I'm was getting sick of the car being in the garage and not using it. The PI injectors being plugged in caused me all sorts of issues. Unplugged them and shit was fine, didnt realize they ran without me telling them to on the SS controller. Once I get the intank pump in, I will get them running for real.

I only stepped on it for a bit, but it felt pretty solid and nothing blew up. If Im feeling brave maybe I will take a log and see what the new JMF got me.

Brakes feel weird, pedal is needs a ton of force to stop the car, I assume the bedding process needs to just happen. Hopefully it gets better. Clearance is tight with the 17x9 RPF1s but it fits.

So per the usual, its something small and stupid that I missed causing me an issue. My manual brakes? well there is a little plastic check valve in the brake booster line, you need it to be going in the right direction if you want to have power brakes. Flipped it around and things are hunky-dory.
