Maisonvi's never ending build

Over the weekend while I was swapping tires and brakes back from track trim, I threw on the CS mid brace I had lying around, and then also swapped in my 1000cc injectors. Those should be the last 2 mods I have left. Went to drive it this morning and something is rubbing up front, new sound i dont recognize. Noticed it on the way home from the track, but forgot to investigate and then didnt notice it again till I tried to go to work this morning. So she is parked back in the garage till I figure out what that is.

Oh, I also blew my fuse that controls the primary O2 sensor again, not sure why thats happening, and some how managed to shred my serpentine belt, again, no idea how that happened. Fuse is replaced, belt is on the way, but it seems to run ok with 1/2 a belt for now.

New serpentine belt on. Looks like my ewg vband wasn't sealed great so my heat sheild is all black and burnt. Just decided to make an aluminum one out of material I had lying around, but I need to figure out how to insulate it as well.

Also taking that off I found why I'm having O2 isses. Rubbed right through the case and cord

My last track day I some how shreded my serp belt. Replaced it with a new one and noticed some grooves forming in it again. Didnt see anything touching but @Sho (I think it was him) suggested it might be my idler pulley. Well he was 100 % right. The thing started making a ton of noise the next day.

Went to get it off and it was STUCK for sure. After trying to be as careful as possible, I rounded the fuck out of the head of the bolt and spent almost 2 hours carefully grinding the head off and then removing the stud with vice grips. Im putting an idler on from my spare motor, but Im debating on ordering a $35 gates one, or just making my own (because why not?) Either way, back together (again) for the time being.

Really put be back on tuning my new injectors. I have a track day Tuesday so I have to swap back to the old injectors to run there, and then back again to start the tuning process. Super annoying.

I had my tensioner pulley take a shit on me too around 50k, it froze up and the belt shredded leaving me stranded on the highway, fun times lol...

Edit: I did replace mine with the gates brand tensioner, because cheaper and why not?

Yeah I was really lucky it didnt happen on the drive somewhere. I havent even driven the car yet and I am hitting the track tomorrow, so hopefully I fixed it all. And Ive always had good luck with everything Gates branded

Remember when I was "done modding" well I lied. Sorry to disapoint you, but now you have something to read.

First, the fail. Track day last Tuesday. IC coupler or something decided to shift and let my under route IC pipe try to make sweet love to my half shaft. Unfortunately half shafts are known to be cruel bitches and left that pipe with something to think about.

That is now at a buddies shop hopefully getting fixed this week or so.

Issue #2, my car thinks its hot shit and on a 90 degree track day coolant temps were 237 and oil at 300+. So thats bad for those of you who dont know, like real bad.

So now the plan is to spend money and make shit not get so hot. Making an oil cooler set up. Earl's thermostat and Cooler core, a custom plate that will delete the stock oil cooler and let me separate the 2 (oil and coolant) from each other so I can pay attention to them independently. I feel this is the best way to keep an eye on temps. I can always go back if I need to.

Fitting the core is proving to be interesting. Cant decide where I want it to go. I dont really want it in front of the FMIC and blocking air to that. I think I can fit it above the crash bar, but I will have to make my own center crash bar support, so thats probably where it will go, I feel it will get the most air flow there. I will have to re-relocate my PS cooler now thought but thats small and shouldn't be an issue.

Here is my cheerio box mock up of the core. Still have to figure out thermostat and routing.

Keeping with my "keep shit cool" plan Im doing a bit more work on my brake ducts. @Hashineer is taking some fog light housings and trying to 3D scan them to the point where I can print a 3D model of what Im looking to do for ducting. In the interim gorilla tape is the solution. I will have more pics when I make some more progress.

Last thing is if I want to get a Koyo radiator. Not sure how bad the install is. Would be a nice thing to have the extra cooling capacity, but Im already taking on a lot getting these things done. I think making an undertray could help a lot towards this too. So Im not sure. I need to order it soon if Im going to do it.

Koyo Rad install isn't too bad if the front clip is off the car. We did mine when my motor was out. Deleted the ac condenser (because racecar), then slid the stock Rad out of the support and the koyo in.

Yeah, front clip is still on, and dont really want to take it off if I can avoid it. I will try and look tonight to see what it woudl take to do

Definitely put an undertray back on, maybe consider making a splitter that goes back to the front wheels. On the couple rare occasions I've driven the evo without the splitter I've noticed it runs just a hair hotter, and that's on the street. Also would give a tad bit of downforce.

I was able to get some work done this weekend. Got the koyo radiator in (decided to pull the whole front to access other stuff as well). Also got my oil cooler 99% installed, just waiting on some more hose as I didn't order enough. Should be here Friday.

Swapped out my cracked up power steering pump hose. It wasn't leaking, but I wanted to solve the issue before it was a problem.

Things I still have left to do:
1. Get my intercooler pipe back from the local shop. Hopefully they can weld it up soon for me.
2. Find somewhere to mount my power steering cooler now that my oil cooler took its spot
3. Figure out where my oil leak is coming from. I'm thinking the oil feed line is my next suspect, not sure if I have to pull the alternator to get that off. Anyone have any idea?
4. Get an alignment once everything is back together.
5. Brake ducts. So far I have made my duct tape mock up on one side. Not sure if I need to make some sort of velocity stack for it?
6. Undertray...if I have time

A "velocity stack" won't get you anything per se beyond the increase in area. If you made the pipe bigger by the amount of the stack leading the air in, it would get you more than keeping the radius. You don't have a low pressure area at the back end of the pipe so it's not the same situation as a carb but I think that, up to a point, having a bigger forward-facing opening will help ram more air down it.

Yeah, when I eventually make the whole foglight housing a funnel to the tube that will be better. This would be more for a smooth transition of air if anything. Probably not worth the effort though
