Maisonvi's never ending build

Honestly the C5 Z06 is really cheap and reliable for how fast it is. being ugly as sin has its perks for the used car shopper.

I dont think that the motor is very durable once you start modding it though. i think the oiling and cooling is pretty maxed from the factory.

Miatas are damn fun but I think you'd get bored from the lack of power pretty quickly. And once you start making power EVERYTHING breaks. Half the drivetrain has a 1-2 season service life once you make more than like 200whp. Axles (shear), rear wheel bearings (literally explode), transmissions (boom), front subframes (crack). Yea everything is fairly cheap but you'll literally always be working on it. I don't think there's a better learning tool than a miata but they require a fair bit of money (and work) to be truly quick.

You could also join Geoff and get an S2000. It's pretty much just a slightly larger miata with more power from the factory that doesn't break as easily.

I lack of power isnt an issue. I need to learn to be a better driver, and power to weight is nice for sure. I dont ever see going over 200whp. And parts are like 99 cents, so thats nice too. S2000 is too heavy, too expensive, and too nice for what I want. Plus, if I exocet like Im thinking I might, 175whp and 1500lbs is plenty

Ever considered evo or wrx/sti?

Too much money there as well. I would love me some evo IX, but they are like $20k for a beat up high mile car.

Im done doing the power chase game. Im working on driver mod 100%.

Exocets are that heavy?! You can get a first gen miata down to 1800ish if you get a stripper model and do some pretty basic weight reduction.

Beat, high mileage cars are in the 11-13 range. 20k buys a pretty nice one. Evos are pretty capable with just some suspension work and a tune, but I'm a little biased ;)

Actually, you know what'd be pretty sweet, if you're able to save the longblock out of your speed and drop it into a 3rd gen miata. 300whp with some weight reduction to get it into the 2100lb area would be super fun and still a good learning tool.

20k is outside the budget. We don't all have Austin type money to spend here. And no desire to deal with evo problems (don't you even try to tell me you dont have them haha)

1800 lbs would be a very gutted miata, but doable if it's a NA I would assume.

The exocet can be like 1300-1400 lbs, but I want a race version with a full cage so I assumed more.

The thought of dropping a spare one of my mzr blocks in something has crossed my mind, but the time and money involved would be out of my range

Any track car you get will be expensive and all of them have their problems (part of why they're expensive). Even an exocet will still run you close to 20k all said and done. Either way, you can't go wrong with a miata.

Couple I'm looking are sub 20k (15ish for one, 19 for the other with a turbo) but I'm not sure how much I want to spend that much money. The miata I'm looking at is 9k.
