I have a 2006 mazdaspeed 6 gt I have purchased the Metra kit but I wanna go ahead and upgrade the speakers i read i could just replace the 2ohm bose speakers with 2ohm aftermarket speakers I'm not sure if this is true any input of install help would be appreciated

It’s been a while since you posted this...

Generally speaking, it’s ok to use higher impedance speakers than what is rated, so you could use higher than 2 ohms. You should be able to safely use 4 ohm speakers (though the stereo would be quieter). You don’t want to go lower than what is rated though since that could overheat the amp (not that you’d use 1 ohm speakers).

Honestly, I’m sure any decent quality speakers would be an upgrade over the Bose ones. I’m not at all a Bose basher (I really like their 901’s) but I think the stereo in the Speed6 does not sound very good.

Here is a link to a company with a 2ohm speaker line. I was looking myself for front door/tweeters, but have never tried anything from them yet.

If you are looking for something a little cheaper, you can search Crutchfields.com to find 2 ohm models.
I have some numbers from another member that had looked into improving the Bose setup on a budget here.

Could be hit and miss if you are looking for a true audio image, but seeing as a car is a poor audio environment its all about getting the best you can.

Thank you for the links. Back when I bought my 08 3 with standard stereo I had reservations on the high frequency errors. Now with a 07 3 bose and old ears...what little high frequencies I can hear need help. Had forgotten about a mod like this!
