I'm new here - Drive a 012 speed3, liquid silver with the obvious MZR 2.3L motor. 129000+ miles. Bought it from a dealer- it was a trade, so don't know how the original owner drove it. Car has been kept stone stock - no mods here. Had to replace clutch year ago.
We purchased the speed 3 while it still has the remainder of the warranty in 2013 or 14, I guess.
It's my wife's daily driver, (Though she does not drive it every day), with most of the miles being in/around the city and slightly less than 10000 highway miles. So given an average of 13,500 miles per year per car in Pennsylvania, that's way less miles driven per year compared to the average. She tends to baby it with occasional full tilt turbo stress,(Nothing abnormal).
I get to drive it after any maintenance I perform on it - like a check drive, and I DO put it through it's paces. Otherwise, I don't get to drive it much, (Sucks to be me).
The car is using about 1.25 quarts oil per month. I can't give how much oil it uses per miles driven, as I am just now monitoring it, (I will post that in the future).
Oil does seep around the valve cover, (nice oil spots in the driveway) and there is no visible blue smoke coming out of the tailpipe.
I use Amsoil Hi-Mileage oil and change it every 10,000 miles and consistently use Purolator BOSS filters - these were tested using specific apparatus on a popular YouTube channel and judged among the best. Up until 2 years ago used filters such as Mobil One and Wix XP.
Wild card: Very rarely burn "Top Tier Detergent Gasoline", just whatever BJ's sells.

With all that said → I need to know what constitutes excess oil consumption with the 2.3 Turbo. Is about 1.25 quarts per month too much?

What happens if you start the car and let it idle for 30 minutes
Not to sound like a wise ass, but what does idling it for 30 minutes prove?
Besides, I've heard over the years that idling car for 30 minutes is not in the best interest of the car.

Could be a lot of things like crankcase, turbo, rear main seal, etc... Have you taken the intake/TIP off to see if there's oil in it? Is there any oil on the drip tray or under the car?

oil change every 10k miles? I'd bring that back to 6k, as for oil, here's our oil thread with UOA for our platform if you're curious. we generally recommended OEM or Wix (not XP) oil filters around here. just mentioning it not looking force anyone to convert

now onto the oil consumption, if you're getting oil seeping around the VC it stands to reason that perhaps your VC gasket is gone, as is the vvt solenoid gasket, had the latter go on me you can buy them both from the dealership if you're doing the job would recommend also get new VC bolt orings at the same time and you'll need some RTV (oil resistant) in a couple of spots.

might be worth breaking out the UV dye and tracking down your oil leak if you're getting spots on the driveway.

the only time I truly saw oil consumption on my speed was a failed PCV valve, wouldn't be surprised if that's due

I'm new here too, i did experience high oil consumption but it was only under heavy acceleration. car ran perfect just btw. after doing a compression check i had 180 in all cylinders so I did the "piston soak" process and man, i'm about 3000 miles post soak and i haven't burned a drop of oil. it was my oil rings apparently stuck causing blow by. i'm not saying that's what you have going on but i was burning a quart every tank which was excessive.
