Just bought a 2009 speed 3 with the 2.3 turbo. I'm getting a rev limit at exactly 4500 rpm. whether i creep up to it or blast it out of the gate. friend of mine wants to check the shutter valves, another buddy thinks it's the camshaft sensor after watching a video that is exactly what mine is doing. https://www.reddit.com/r/mazdaspeed3/s/hcVZpJuHp2.

I am in love with this car its got 140 thousand miles so I'm hoping to drive it for a few years, i would just love to get the full range of power . It does have a Cat-back exhaust and the guy put a boost gauge in the ash tray other than that its stock i think.

Kind of just wanted to start a conversation about it, cam sensor comes in tonight well see :)

Thanks all and thanks to this site for existing LOL.

Before you go buying parts, you need to check for codes and get a log of the issue, if possible. Something like this doesn't happen without either a change to the tune (likely resulting in parts incompatibility when they stock it out without restoring factory ECU settings) or some kind of hard parts issue, or both.

Even at stock, you will want a tune for improvements in longevity and economy if nothing else.

Enki, Thanks for the info and i agree with you. ive had 3 scan tools on it and so far no codes even live data looks good. there was one old clutch switch code but it hasent came back.

And im with you on the tuning a couple mazda guys took a listen over the phone and said it sounds like a "Valet" tune? i dont know im kind of in over my head with some of this stuff. Before i buy anything else ill take it to a shop, surely they could check for add on tunes and what not.

Just kills me because it starts and runs so well other than that. thanks for the input sir!

Check/replace the clutch pedal position switch. If it's not on a valet tune, if the clutch pedal position switch is faulty, it'll default to the launch control rpm as it thinks the clutch pedal is always depressed

If it does this when parked, it might be the clutch switch. Regardless, it seems like it has a tune and was never rolled back; did the car come with an AccessPort or did the previous owner mention a VersaTune license? You're going to need that either way as I think the only way to unmarry an AP from the ECU without the AP is to literally fucking mail your ECU to Cobb, which is a bag of ass on fire.

Or if he buys an AP, it'll overwrite the previous AP upon installation

Oh that's good to know. I thought you couldn't do that and that you'd be locked out.

Nope. All 3 of my speeds that I've purchased were missing the AP that was married to them. Buy a new one or an unmarried used one. As soon as you plug it into obd2, it'll pop a message on the screen saying it's detected a previously married AP and then it will ask you if you want to continue and overwrite the previous, or if you want to cancel and disconnect said new AP from obd2.

Lol too funny, had a buddy telling me about that its a dumpster fire if thats what it is. Thanks

Sho - I saw something about the clutch pedal switch when i first started chasing this rabbit. I'm going to grab one this weekend.
Thanks for the advice i had forgotten about it.

Gentlemen,
I honestly doubt this is supposed to be hanging LOL. does anyone know where i can find a picture of the assy so i can figure out how it mounts? Ive included a picture of the hanging sensor and the sensor still on there. Are these 2 different sensors? some of the drawings i find have 2. a starter interlock switch and a position sensor. When i call the parts store they can only find the one starter switch. Im hoping my bracket isnt broken because i dont see one. Thanks all 20240614_115719.jpg 20240614_115735.jpg

SOLVED Sorry for the spam. Thanks to Enki and Sho. Found a service manual and stuck the sensor back in its bracket hole and rotated it. kinda locked in place and the rev limit problem is gone. Sho you are THE MAN. Thanks to the site also never would have gotten it fixed without everyone.

I can't find the fuel filter or any videos on it. My service manual is no help at all. Please can someone tell me where it is?.. I have a 2011 ms3

In the tank, clipped to the bottom of the fuel pump basket. Google image search mazdaspeed 3 fuel pump and you should eventually find a pic.

It clips on to the bottom.

FR? Isn't it inline?

Nope. In the tank.

Thank you. Guess I need to return the filter I got. Haha.

On the related note, I'm trying to replace it bc the car has been running lean, burning spark plugs, then running rich. I used ngk 1step colder from corksport and it went through them in a few weeks. I got the ngk laser iridium ones it liked before and am trying to change the filter and get the injectors cleaned. Is there something else I should be looking at instead?
