Next Up Brakes, On the right track?

Next order of business on the MS3 is a brake makeover. Our research has brought us to this list of items:

Stop Tech Stainless Steel Lines Front and Rear
ATE Typ 200 or Motul 600 (Leaning Motul although I know ATE Top 200 is great)
EBC Yellow Brake Pads
Centric Plain Hi-Carbon Fronts (series 125)
Centric Plain Rears (series 120)

We think this will bring everything up to date and provide better stopping power. The only thing we are discussing is if it is worth getting the EBC Yellows for the rear or just get some less expensive pads yet still quality but not as pricey as the EBCs? Also we saw the CYRO treated but seems that is targeted towards longevity which I'm not too worried about as far as rotors go.

Any suggestions/insights greatly appreciated as always and this is for a DD application with some spirited driving. Track use is not in the cards right now and if my kid ever gets that far we will make changes as necessary but as of now not worried about any kind of track use.

I've personally really liked my ebc yellow pads front and rear with centric high carbon blanks. I will say the ebc yellow take some time to bed in and people that I know who don't follow their instructions complain of brake noise, o dod the ebc procedure and didn't have an issue. Their cold bite is so so, it's fine but just something to be aware of when it's -20c...

I would not run different pads between front or rear, another set of pads people like is the g-loc pads, either rs1 or r6 which I will probably try next

There is also a procedure on the Akebono Euro Ceramics I usually use and at most I'll get one squeak the first time I apply the brakes and that's it, I'm sure I can find the procedure EBC recommends. It looks like to me the G-LOC GS-1, EBC Reds and Akebono Euro-Ceramics are probably very closely related and the EBC Yellows are probably comparable to the G-LOC R6. I've never tried EBCs on any of my cars so I am not going to bypass them and go straight to G-LOCs.

On another note we both like the idea of the low dust of the EBC Reds and Akebono Euro-Ceramics but from reading it sounds like the Yellows are simply on a different level. If it gets that much better going from Red to Yellow he can deal with the added brake dust. Can't be worse than what's in there now because I think the pads are made of old brake dust that they swept up from the Autobahn.

I used Hawk pads and don't recommend them. They were incredibly noisy and wouldn't stay bedded no matter what I tried.

I was using them with DBA rotors. Now those I definitely recommend. I have them on the Miata and used them on the Speed. They have held up without warping even after a few AutoX and track days.

I may have the Hawk pads if you want them. I just don't recommend them if the car is street driven at all. But for the track they would be fine.

Thanks for the offer @L337TurboZ but I'll take your word that they aren't to great for normal street use.

Another separate question. Do you guys use any kind of grease/lubricant/anti seize between the rotor and the hub so it doesn't fuse together as easily? When I changed rotors on my MB E550 holy fuck I thought I was going to have to rent a jack hammer. I totally destroyed the old rotors trying to get them off.

I've tossed some anti seize in there I'm the last the best thing is prepping the hub with a wtor brush before tossing the new rotors on

We will clean up the hubs and add some anti seize to see how that turns out. The DBAs are very nice but out of his budget so to get bang for the buck we ended up ordering the Centric blanks, Yellowstuff pads, the stoptech lines and Motul.

He was tempted by the package EB mentioned but went the way we went. Now I have spray paint duty on the calipers as he asked if I could spray them an anondized blue so we also ordered 2 rattle cans of that. I’m pretty good with a rattle can so that will be up to me and I’ll have him tape everything off. Now it’s just a waiting game for parts and a nice weekend to knock it out.

Thanks again for all the comments. I might get those DBAs for my car down the road.
