[SOLVED] P0441 EVP System Incorrect Purge Flow

Hello, I have a stock 2008 Mazdaspeed3 with 144k miles. I'm having trouble getting rid of the P0441 code.

Originally I was getting P0441 and P0446 codes.

I replaced the canister purge valve with non-Mazda one. Erased the codes and they came back after 2 days.

I replaced the Leak Detection Pump last weekend with a new Mazda genuine one (along with a pair of Mazda rear coil springs since the right rear one had broken - pretty proud of myself for being able to do both repairs - not easy).

Again, engine light came on after two days but only P0441 comes back now.

I'm wondering if I should replace the fuel filler cap. It looks ok, but I don't really know.
I also read online that someone else had replaced their purge valve with a non-Mazda part and they ended up having to replace it with a Mazda genuine part.
I do not smell fuel and the car runs great. The engine light is nagging me though!

Any suggestions?

Did you install the purge solenoid in the correct direction? The ECU is trying to see fuel tank pressure drop in a specified amount of time. What's happening is that it's dropping but not at the rate it's supposed to. Either there is a leak (which would set the Evap Small Leak/Evap Large leak codes) or the purge solenoid you have isn't good.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m sure I installed the new purge solenoid in the proper direction. I was trying to decide whether to buy a new Mazda solenoid or a new gas cap or both - or something else.

Not sure fuel cap will help with purge flow, typically it's the leak code it helps with even if looks fine.

When it comes to electrictronics our cars really don't like non OEM parts, there are a few that over the years people have found to work and you can find them listed here https://mazdaspeeds.org/index.php?threads/proven-parts-list-common-parts-that-dont-suck.4476/

Unfortunately I went ahead and ordered both a new purge flow solenoid and gas cap before seeing your message. I'll report back after I receive and install them, but I'm not hopeful they'll solve the problem.

One thing I noticed that I didn't notice before is that the metal flap that the gas pump nozzle pushes aside when fueling does not close all the way - a significant gap. I don't think that should matter since the gas cap is supposed to seal the fueling neck, but I hadn't noticed it before.

The new gas cap fixed the problem. It has been a week since installing it and no more P0441 engine code. :-)
