p2177 and p2187 and p0300(only on WOT)

Probably can go rock Auto, is it the EGR or just the gasket? Because if it's the gasket I'd call Mazda for one

My EGR actually developed a small leak on the back under side after 150,000 miles. I found a brand new OEM one on eBay for about $250.

Rock Auto will def save you some money but I suppose it depends on what your usage is with the car? Is it your DD or is it a nice weather car?

I like Rock Auto when I can actually buy the part that's made by the same manufacturer that OEM uses. If I can't then I usually lean OEM but it all depends on what the part is.

Something like an EGR you'll probably be fine with RA like Awa said. There are things on this car that DO NOT like off branded versions like the MAF sensor for example.

Hmmm okay good to know. It is my DD so maybe ill look on ebay for some OEM ones. The mechanic said that the EGR will HAVE to be replaced, so im assuming its the EGR and not the gasket .

I changed the sparkplugs today, I kinda messed up? Basically I put in the new sparkplugs and the car started running, but I noticed cylinder 1 spark plug had spark plug noises coming from it(sounded like electricity). Tried diagnosing it and found that the noise was only made at cylinder 1 even when spark plugs and coil packs were changed. I also found out that cylinder 1 is running hotter than my other cylinders.

Basically to troubleshoot, I took the intercooler off and was testing spark plugs in cylinder 1(with the intercooler still off), and I think during one of the runs, I kept the engine running for a little too long, and it looks like the spark plug in cylinder 1 got cooked( the ground electrode is like black but still intact, most of the rest of it wasnt discolored) . As i was already In panic, I decided to just put one of the old spark plugs in and run the car. The spark plug electric noise is still there but I can't confirm if it was there before the spark plug change or not.

The car accelerates so much better now it's crazy, i didn't know it can go this fast haha(P0300 is basically gone). There is still some random hesitation but I'm guessing that's becasue of the 1 spark plug not being gapped the same.

If anyone knows any causes to the spark plug noise issue please let me know, otherwise i'll just buy another sparkplug and gap it(if my current one is bad) and put it in.

Wait you didn't even bother to gap the mis matched sparkplug the same? Dude what the actual fuck.

A very quick Google search shows that Noise is probably poor contact from the coil pack to spark plug, did you swap the coil packs around at all? You could try stretching out the coil pack spring as well. Pack could be fried, swap cyl 1 coil pack to another cylinder and see if it continues after getting a new plug in there of the same time. If it moves it's the coil pack. Use OEM coil packs only

Yeah, I’m using OEM coil packs I believe, but the sound follows the cylinder, not the spark plugs or coil packs. But that’s all i’ve tried so far, I’ve seen online that injectors may be the problem but I wanted a second opinion before i make a decision. I didn’t gap it because I wasn’t sure if the gap was the problem or not but it was late and I had to get home from my friends place. I’m planning on changing it sometime tommorow

You weren't sure if the problem was the gap but If it's done correctly to spec it won't be but you need to verify it to be that way...

So you did move the coil packs around? Your previous post made no mention of coil packs...if yes I can see there being an issue with the injector. But you said the plug is burnt ? You can upload pics directly here so we can see the damage

Check the plug on the coil pack for cylinder 1

Put the new spark plug in the black is from not firing correctly it will clean itself up

Sorry I thought I included the coil packs but I didn’t. The spark plug that was burnt was a new gapped one and it was making that sound. I think the burnt plug is fine to put in after some research. Atleast now, the car doesn’t misfire which is good but their is definitely some air leaks I need to fix. Should I put some new injectors in?

You shouldn't replace any more parts until you have made sure that everything is working correctly. Fix the air leaks and reasses

Injectors are a bitch so definitely don't do them unless you really have to

EB what do you think is so bad about them? I mean yeah they are expensive with good seals but I didn't think they were that bad.

I do 100% agree on NOT replacing any more parts without proper diagnosis and research. Pulling the parts cannon just because never works out well.

Just between removing the manifold and then likely being stuck with factory seals as well as not something that usually goes bad on this platform it's way more work than necessary at this stage

Plus once your in there you would get into cleaning the valves etc.

Fair enough, I suppose I'm a bit skewed with what is a "bad job" is on this car at this point. After you pull the motor other things don't seem so bad.

In the video all I can really hear is the noisy direct injection

It’s like a little spark ticking sound, I don’t know if it’s normal, but the sound is only being made at or around cylinder 1.

OP how are you listening for this noise?

You can use a long screw driver as a "stethoscope" by pressing the handle to your ear and placing the blade end on whatever you want to listen to with the engine running.

If there is any anomaly causing noise you'll be able to tell if there is any difference between the cylinders.

I can hear the noise just by having the hood open. It could just be normal noise but it’s only on 1 cylinder(or atleast very loud at 1 cylinder). If it sounds normal, i’m probably just overthinking it
