Watch out kids, there's a new sheriff in town! Got my baseline VDyno as a joke I am sure last night after @Captain KR started working his tuner magic on my car. I handed him the keys and said to have his way with her.

Spring pressure doesn't creep too bad which looks good on the FJ manifold. I have a 15psi spring in there and it seems to be only gaining about 3psi at redline on a cool night.

Still just referencing VDyno but we're feeling very strong throughout the power band on 93 octane. Will still wants to clean up the AFR and is keeping the tune modest on 93 but I'm real happy with where we are. We had a few VDynos with HP #'s in this range so I'm confident the car is at least in the 400's on pump.



Will is starting the e85 tune today and hopefully I'll be able to finish it up with the tires I have now. If need be, I'll pick up some more sticky rubbers since I definitely will need to soon if I want to put this power down. Luckily I have a friend trying to part ways with a set of Hoosier drag radials with tops 500mi on them so they may be coming my way soon.

The car is feeling totally different than it did before so I am super excited to see what insanity comes with ethanol!

I'll have to get a log and take a look.

It seems my HKS SSQV4 isn't sealing quickly enough at idle which is giving me a very rich condition for a couple seconds when I come to a stop. Plugs are looking like they're suffering from it too so I used my Edge Autosport credit for a shiny new Tial Q BOV! Once that goes on, hopefully the car runs like top. Luckily there's an Tial to HKS flange adaptor on Edge so it'll just pop right into place.

Still waiting on my Tial Q. Apparently FedEx doesn't know the difference between two day air and 4 day shipping.

Got some tire on the car though which is pretty nice. It was rainy today but I actually think I got about a 90% hook in 4th gear which is pretty wild. I look forward to some pulls in the dry now where I'll actually put the power down. Hopefully my first pull with traction doesn't show us that my clutch is slipping or something, that would just blow. Here you can see the lovely NT01 all moist. I must say, driving with them in the rain isn't bad in the slightest. Now we can finish the tune and then slap the girl on the dyno and hope for an impressive show.


Here's a video of the WOT Box doing it's thing. No fire here. Oh well, maybe someday I'll have cool antilag or something but for now this should be enough to scare the kids at the mall.

So, no dyno sheets yet because the shop local to me apparently keeps filling up. I have the car back and it's running great. Running 34psi since I only have a 3.5bar map sensor but the tune is so good I am very happy with how it all turned out.



Before giving me the car back, Will had to get a run in with a buddy of ours with a turbo LS Blazer lol he gave Will the hit and stayed in the back. The Blazer would've won but traffic came up quick so I'm going to write this off as a win in my book!


I'm thinking soon I might pick up a typical set of RPF1 wheels as a buddy is selling a 17x9 set for cheap. NT01 tires in that size are almost $100 cheaper than the ones for the 18in wheels I have now so that's some kinda justification to get new wheels.

Sweet stuff, man! +1 on 17" wheels. I run 17x8" with Michelin Pilot Super Sports (which, BTW, are pretty much the best all-around tire ever - but seriously, there's a reason they pretty much win every single Max Performance Summer Tire category comparison, haha), and 17s save you quite a bit of coin. I use 245/40s. I realize some tires out there grip better in certain categories, like straight-line or in cornering, but nothing else offers the overall benefits of the Michelin PSSes all in one tire (they're pretty much almost the best in every performance measure), especially how long they last compared to comparable tires in the Max Performance Summer tire segment (usually at least 2x longer).

Then again, going up a level to basically street-legal R compound tires is a valid choice too. Not ideal for my DD, though. I'm not a fan of needing new tires every two oil changes, LOL.

The R compounds on there now are really awesome, when warm they come real close to hooking second. Coming from my Miata, the MS3 feels like an SUV in the turns but with the NT01 it's been feeling a lot better in corners as well.

This headwork man, it's apparently flowing a ton of air for 34psi. Hopefully the dyno comes soon. This car scares me a little, I love it!

Update:
Installed the SpeedPerf6manc3 auxiliary fan controller, link, and I have to say I 100% recommend this for pretty much anyone. I was seeing temps at high as 220 degrees in traffic/on the dyno before installing this. Since the install, I haven't seen north of 201 degrees and temps generally are around 195.

I sounded like a commercial (they don't even know I'm posting this) but $120 is really not bad for something that took about an hour to install and set up and just straight up works.

I had a local shop owned by a good friend of mine do a little healthy checkup/preventative maintenance for me. Re-torque head studs, make sure crank bolt is tight, install new rear springs, and just a nice inspection to make sure everything is good. Also, I figured they could grind my calipers and fit these nice new slicks I've been meaning to try on for size.

The shop is called Elevated Automotive and they're in MD, do great work and have helped @Captain KR out a ton. The more time Will spends there, the more it looks like a MazdaSpeed shop! The owner is a 29 year old guy who wanted to have a speed shop and made that dream happen.

Oh and the owner Jeremy said if I rocked a sticker I'd get a discount on labor aka SPONSORSHIP. I asked for a full wrap for more of a discount but that's not a thing.

Honestly I was going to rock a sticker even if it didn't mean that I got discounts but you will not hear me complain.


There are some FAST local cars rocking the Elevated Automotive sticker so I'm pretty proud to be included in that gang.

Baby got a new pair of shoes! I put the 17x9 RPF1s on today with a nice sticky Hoosier DR on the front. Haven't driven in the warm yet with them but I've heard they hook mighty well. These actually sit slightly further in compared to the Evo X wheels and I haven't had any rubbing on my rear yet which is refreshing.


And took a little 4th gear pull video since I think some people were curious. To be fair, you aren't in much of a power band on a straight 4th gear pull (a 3-4 with higher rpm throughout would be better) but it's still interesting to see.



Also, I'm trying to figure out a little issue I've been having. Super rich condition when coming to a stop. Basically I clutch in and I'll dip to ~10 afr, then chill at ~11.5 afr for about 7 seconds before it starts equalizing. At this time the STFT shoots to -25.X and stays there until the AFRs start to equalize. Under normal driving and WOT- AFR, LTFT, and STFT are all excellent.
I'm wondering if the line to my BOV is causing issues with the BOV sealing since it's T'd off to go to my boost gauge sensor and RRFPR. I am really not sure if that could quite cause the problem I'm running into though. If anybody still comes to this thread, feel free to toss ideas into the bucket!

If your running a bov then this could be a issue.

Mine does the the same thing with ARF, never really knew what it was, but its never really effected drivability either. Curious if you figure out the culprit.

This is just spit balling, but I had some 25.xx STFT while idling and coasting. It turned out to be that damn fuel EVAP purge valve. I took it off, applied air tool oil while triggering the valve with a 9volt battery. It hasn't returned yet.

Yeah, it doesn't effect drivability but it's just an odd thing I've been slightly bothered by. I don't mind a surge of richness but the fact it hands there for a while is why I want to do some research.

I was actually thinking that was the issue! I just couldn't find much info on it and I always assumed a bad evap would throw a code. I'll probably look into that tonight. It makes sense though since it would be pulling fuel fumes into the intake manifold when it shouldn't.

If your running a bov then this could be a issue.

I'm not sure how coasting to a stop and pushing the clutch in would cause my Tial Q with a shimmed 12lb spring to hang open for an extended period of time. That thing doesn't open unless you're letting off in boost or very close to it. I also have no recirc tube on my intake so we'll just have to accept the fact I run VTA as a constant that isn't changing.
