Rear Sway Bars

Setting is a moot point; if the bar was designed with the capability to run at a particular stiffness then it should be designed to do so without failure.
I don't think so. The stiffer the setting, the more force the bar (and welds) are going to see, right?
 
Obviously; and as such, if it is designed to allow you to run that stiffness, then it ought to be designed to withstand those forces. If it can't, it's a poor design with an essentially useless stiffness setting.
I agree with the first part, not with the second. Many straight-up race cars run the exact same bar design: separate middle section combined with welded-on arms. Tri-Point's bar is a good example.
 
We aren't talking about other brands running a same generalized design type; we're talking about JBR and how his, specifically, has failed in the past. All I'm saying is that which stiffness setting it failed on is irrelevant, because he released a product that is supposedly capable of handling any of the three settings provided. If it can't, then it is designed improperly.

Then we agree it's not a flawed design, just failed execution on some JBR bars. I've heard of some failures. But then you'll see folks like me that have zero issues. For that reason, I don't think all JBR bars will have issues. Perhaps it's a QC thing.

Heck, their competition 250 bar can see a TON more force, literally over double the stiffest 125 setting. I wonder if folks are having failures on those too?
 
Allow me to roll my eyes, once again, at your choice of nitpicking semantics to skip around the flaw in your statement. Design, execution of design, what the fuck ever. He released a product and it failed; your asking which stiffness the guys were running when it failed is simply not relevant. End of.

Analyzing failures is relevant to some folks. It's relevant to me. And it's not semantics, it's about influential variables. Analyzing failure is all about the particulars. If you're not interested, that's cool. But I certainly am, especially with one on my Speed.

I was running mid-stiff, corksport coilovers at probably just below stock height. Had a half dozen or so track days on it with a couple off track "excursions" ;). Welds failed and allowed the bar to rotate slightly. So not a complete fail, but integrity was gone and it was a matter of time before complete failure.
 
My JBR .125 broke at the welds roughly 2 weeks ago. Reached out to Jamie JBR and he replaced it. No questions asked. The new .125 welds look 100 times better than the last one. I'm guessing he got a new welder. Which is great! I hope this one holds up!

When did you buy the original bar?
 
I wonder if that was part of the bad batch, I know my welds on mine that I bought at the beginning of 2016 are excellent. One of these days I'm going to pull it and do an inspection out of curiosity and can confirm then.
That's what I'm thinking. Zero issues for me and many others. Then, we have the guys having broken welds....

Yeah, I know there's was one bad batch in particular, thought all of those were delt with so I haven't heard if any failures since then, this being the newest.

I know Jamie takes pride in his products and up until last year I don't believe there were any failures. Which is why despite the broken welds that happened I still bought one of the JBR RSB and I've been quite happy. Yeah it sucks that they broke but JBR truly backs their warranty, more than I can say for other companies trying to squirm out of it.

I will say, on some level, welds can look amazing and be useless. Bad looking welds are typically not stong, but looking good doesnt mean that they are penetrating. Just food for thought. Dont completly judge a weld by its looks.

which I totally agree with you on this. However, I still would like quality welds over non quality welds. And Lifetime Warranty. Can't beat that.
