Should I delete my balance shaft?

Hello fellow degenerates. I am contemplating deleting my balance shaft but I don't want to lessen the life of the engine. Other than more vibes and rattles, are there other issues I should take into account? I couldn't find a thread on bsd, delete this please if I've accidentally shit posted.

Pretty much just vibes.

You'll be able to hold about another quart of oil as well after you get that big mofo out of there.
 
And more than a quart if you use a larger filter. I've had mine out for about 2 years. Multiple UOA's have come back with little to no wear. 0ver 30k on my bsd. Definitely more vibes and more so if fully mounted.

Your reason for the bsd? Gonna put an oil baffle in? Or just want to delete.

If you're going to do it, the damond mounts are a nice way to offset some of those vibes, but if you're not worried about them at all. Then fuck it.

I was originally wanting quicker throttle response and more vibrations in the cabin. But I've just replaced my cobb rmm with a solid jbr one and sated my need for more vibrations, as I've got tmm and pmm mounts still to put on (JBR max stiffness). That only leaves my disatisfaction with the throttle response, which I'm sure I can get over. I just don't want to hurt the motor by introducing overly excessive wear and tear on it.

You're not going to notice much of a difference to be honest.

Get yourself a lightweight flywheel if you want lots of noise and better response.

Yeah I know it's a little bit twisted. I drove a fully stripped out ae86 for close to 3 years before getting this car though, so I guess I am a glutton for punishment. (Still my favorite car i've owned. I could go on forever about this thing...)

I think for the time being I'll skip the bsd, and upgrade the flywheel when it's time for a clutch. Thanks for your input!
 
I plan on keeping my balance shafts after being built. I'm thankful to the Mazda engineers for taking the time to cancel out the secondary forces imbalance intrinsic to the I-4 engine layout.
 
Yeah, in these cars you won't see quicker throttle response with a bsd. You might hurt your teeth with a bsd and JBR top mounts. Read that the nvh can be unbearable

I have the JBR Trilogy 88/80/80 (I think) with a BSD and a lightweight flywheel and the noise/vibes aren't actually all that bad. Even my girlfriend rides in my car all the time without commenting on anything.

"Bad" is so subjective, though. And so many folks have varying degrees of tolerance for NVH.

For me, it's as simple as this: the Mazdaspeed engineers put them there to counter the inherent I-4 imbalance in secondary forces intrinsic to our particular engine layout, so I want to leave them in. Smoothness is always nice, especially when you're already fully mounted. Besides, my car will rev much more responsively with the SB Clutch/Flywheel I'll be installing anyways.

I'm likely to keep mine after I build my motor because I daily my speed or at least I did before ZZB. IMO keep it if you daily, if it's a weekend car get rid of it. Also my fiance already thinks my car rattles too much so that also influences my decision. She gets a headache every time she's in my car with the Damond trilogy.

True. Of all manufacturers I've tried (and there have been a few), Damond fully mounted >>> all others in terms of lowest amount of NVH. Yet at the same time, they're rock solid. My engine pretty much doesn't move at all. Love my Damond Trilogy...

I'm debating on whether or not to put one in my new motor. I had it deleted in my 92 talon awd tsi, 80a duro mounts, and it was quite a shaker. Nothing crazy, but not sure if it's something I want at 31.

Then again, I still feel like it was possibly a reason my motor went, and this makes me want to DELETE it, and get the baffle.
