I was a couple months away from having a kid and needed something more "reliable" than my 2 door 91 blazer that was falling apart and I didn't have the money for parts or time to fix (needed basically an entire drivetrain swap engine to diff)
I started looking for cars in the beginning of 2019, found and looked at some speed 3's gen 1 and 2 (some slightly modded some stock) they where fun and I loved the way the cars acted, felt, and sounded, but wasn't satisfied with the FWD aspect, coming from only ever owning something that was RWD(lowered square body blazers and Miatas)
I really wanted a speed 3 but prices where high and so where the miles on my options at the time, along side that i felt like I wouldn't be satisfied and still wanted more.
So I started looking for an infamous Speed6, to my luck I found 2 candidates, one on craigslist with about 120k stock motor slightly and tastefully modded (APV3,intake,hpfp,fmic,downpipe,and magnaflow exhaust), guy was selling for 7k, I was excited and called my bank and set up a time to try to get a personal loan to go buy the car, did that a couple days later and no dice, didn't get approved for the loan, I had little to no credit at the time and no one was willing to cosign or help me out so I was on my own.
The second Speed6 I found had about 145k completely stock and unmolested, it was at an Acura dealership about 45 minutes away they wanted 8k for it(it was still relatively affordable to me), I called them and made sure they still had the car so I could look at the car and test drive it.
It was still there, but someone was test driving it and trying to get a loan approved, I knew I had to hurry, I made arrangements to get to the dealer to look at and test drive the car after I got off work.
I get to the dealership and the car is nowhere in sight I'm worried it's gone at this point, so I find the salesman I talked to earlier in the day he grabs the car and brings it around, I'm drooling already just looking at this beautiful car, being this excited I didn't do any real preliminary checks before my test drive, I get in and start it up, timing chain is making noise on start up, goes away after a moment, gas light is on, I say fuck it and off we go, test drive goes okay car feels pretty good, nothing obviously wrong, didn't get to test much of anything with no gas being in the tank and me not wanting to lean the car out.
Get back to the dealer and do paperwork, got approved, signed my life away and double checked the car over while waiting on my copies of the paperwork.
This is when I found out that the oil in the car is low and not showing up on the dipstick,
I got a little heated at this point, and made the salesman go get me oil (this may have been what saved me a lot of hassle later on when I went ZZB) so I can top the car off before driving it 45 minutes back home, the car was 2 quarts low on oil, no smoking turbo so I wasn't terribly concerned.
The next day I took the car to work very happy with my new purchase, I did an oil change on the car just so I had piece of mind that everything was fresh, upon pulling the oil filter out it was black and smelled of gas, as did the oil, at this point I could tell the dealership had not done an oil change on the car like they had claimed on the carfax report I had received from them.
Fast forward to my son being born, he had to be put into the NICU due to a heart condition he was born with, so my girlfriend and I had to go back and forth to the hospital constantly for awhile, one night on our way home we where in Mexico and I decided to get on it in 4th to see what she really had, revs went up car started to pull hard and then all of the sudden everything got quite and the motor just shut off and lost oil pressure, pulled over and tried to turn the motor over, got nothing but clicks, no dice she was done. The rod in Cylinder 4 decided to say hello to the outside world.
