You're lucky to get a Focus RS for MSRP. I've heard of them going for up to +$7,500 over MSRP. That's a very expensive total price compared to even a brand-new Speed 3 w/ Tech, back in 2013. With lots of options and TTL, you could be looking at a $50k price tag. Could've gotten two Speeds for that price. And lots of fun, fast, and very moddable cars that can make a ton of power for that amount of coin...This is the most appealing Mod to me as it's the one thing i dislike about the speed3.... But 10K+ on a 9 year old car...i'd just buy a Focus RS...
But no "drift mode" for usSpeeds are very capable in turns.
McDonald's trays and parking brake for the hoon mode on MS3..But no "drift mode" for us, you know, for ricer bravado.
Meh. i guess what are you comparing it too? Undeersteering pig even with a giant sway bar and full suspension. Whatever Ford did to the rear suspension on the ST makes that cars rear end kick, it's a far superior chassis because of it as far as im concerned.Speeds are very capable in turns.
But is this tendency really a function of the chassis? Do you have quantitative measures of chassis rigidity and handling dynamics? Or is it really about the FoST's electronic nannies? Big difference between the two. And a nanny that can be great at stock power levels can be an absolute nightmare when you're making a good deal more power. Ask me about SWAS, LOL. One of the best things I ever did was disable that system, particularly at BNR S3 power levels (385/380).Well ~25k doesn't get you much today. Speed3 was a bargin.

But the Ford build quality, and engine are no where near Mazda's.![]()
Local Stig has his riceland equipped MS3 within a few seconds of his full track prep MSM at the local shifter kart course (hybrid autox/road racing). He seems to think my MS3 (when back on the road and dialed in) will be just as quick as his MSM.Meh. i guess what are you comparing it too? You just haven't driven an MS3 with a well-sorted suspension/tire setup yetMostly hands on experience. AutoX both cars, the FoST, is much more refined and easier to drive. Even on the street i can feel it on the freeway, spirited driving.
Yes, SWAS sucks. First mod i did
That's all relieve to the track, right? I have autoX'ed faster times than a Z06, Miata's ect. Go to a different course and they will be seconds faster.
Nah, definitely not. OTS "sport" setups are not well-sorted performance suspensions. They sacrifice a little comfort and give a little performance, but not too much. Ask me how I know. Get in a car with a real performance setup by @phate , @ConeKiller , @Nliiitend1 or other peeps that know these cars, then make a comparison.Maybe not? Bilstien B8's/H&R Hotchkis RSB, Prothane sway bar bushings front, white-line front LCA. Powerflex bushings in rear knuckles.
I'm on 18x8 wheels on oem Goodyear eagle (Oem FoST tires) tires which admittedly are not winning any awards, BUTTTTT apples to apples the focus still feels more refined.
To quote Phate, "it's all in the dampers." You can run very stiff springs and have more driving comfort than stock if the dampers are correctly valved. AWD often causes plow and understeer, and may lose that sharpness you say feels "refined," unless it's mid-engine AWD.MS3 and Fost is very identical suspension. - Rear end is redesigned geometry by some guy from lotus
I know there is room for improvement. The car is my DD, i'm not about to run 800lb sprint rates to make it track faster, just comparing the chassis, is all.... AWD would solve my gripe with the car![]()
