Unable to hit commanded load

This is my first "big turbo" car but its my 4th mazdaspeed. I swear everyone was saying stock injectors were good to 380whp? but thats on 93 oct with wmi or what?

edit: can i say "big turbo"? bnr s4 in the grand scheme is kinda small.
On my CS Turbo I had 325 whp with 93 and 375 whp with e30. There is not a ton of fueling headroom and it can be hard to judge based on others numbers as dynos and even vdyno can be diff. You could probably eek more out but then you are on the edge of fueling and timing which to me was not worth it.

I followed up on my other thread and hit 359hp on virtual dyno. updated some max timing cells for the new load, leaned my AFR to 11.68 and increased max IDC to 95. thats 19psi at 6k rpm. logged 100% IDC

I don't think 15.5 degrees is enough on e30, unless your CPS is off or you're not knock proof.

When i was working on my timing map with the K04, thats as far as i went. I thought we couldnt find MBT street tuning with E30? Ive never seen any knock in my logs. i mean once in a great while there is a .035 or something. This is my daily, so i havent been trying to squeeze every ounce of performance out of it. Is it normal to only get 180 miles per tank of gas.... when your tuning? :-)

Tuning on corn is tricky, because you can't really make good use of the knock sensor. You have to monitor MAF volts, and look for a leveling off of airflow to know when you're near MBT, or for when you stop gaining power. Even one degree higher than MBT and power drops significantly (you will feel it while driving).

In the cool air of michigan mornings i can hit over 330g/s. However in the evening when its 88F and i have BATS of 130 the best i see is 315g/s virtual dyno shows that pull at 341hp 4.43maf v. 20psi 89% injector duty 16.4 degree advance. Considering the miserable heat, im pretty happy -- but the one area i need a lot of work is spool up. I start the logs at 3000rpm and it feels like 3 mississippis before i feel positive boost. Logs show it come online around 3600. I should have a new XS manifold on the way but no tracking # yet.

edit: looking at the log its 4 seconds from negative boost to full but i am seeing 10lbs by 3250rpm but the car doesnt start to move until 3700

When do you make positive pressure? What RPM?

I don't remember logging this, but i am looking at one right now where i started at 2400rpm. I see 1psi at 2634 2psi at 2700. looks like it gains 1psi every .2 seconds. until 3400rpm where it gains 3psi per .2 seconds. With that said, the car doesnt throw you back into the seat until after 17psi. Ive seen logs where im making 10 psi at 3400 but the car doesnt really start moving until after that. I have my AFR dialed in for open loop, but i think its my transition that needs work. When i tuned K04 cars this was never an issue. My BNR car also feels good if start the pull after 3500rpm ill see if i can attach a log.

That sounds pretty normal for this turbo. I'm running an s4v2 and have the same experience; matting the throttle at 3k or slightly before leaves me hanging for a few seconds before it really takes off.

My 5862 does the same thing, engine needs to load up the turbo and then it goes to work. Sounds like big turbo problems.

Dang, i was fully prepared for wizards to come in here and be like "retard timing at load x and add fuel, then adjust VVT yell yaba dabba do!" its really not bad if i start at 3500, but i think i might of been happier with a BNR S3 and the weight of an extra $300 in my pocket :-)

I never meant to put this turbo on this car, just got sick of looking at it sitting on the floor waiting for my other build.

The problem is you retard timing and enrichen mix to promote spool, but you lose out on power doing that. You can toe the line, but you can't break physics. :(

The setup i have now, made the K04 feel very responsive. I just wanted to make sure my spool up is optimized, perhaps when my XS manifold shows up that will help some?

I'm at the track now. 13.6@102. 200 degree bats 93f ambient. Waiting in line sucks. Log shows 0 degree timing advance 315g sec

I just swapped my stock BOV for a go fast bits unit. no other changes, logged 380hp on virtual dyno this morning, tip in throttle feels much cleaner, 358g/sec. my highest with stock bpv was 334g / sec i think. car feels really good now, ive achieved my goals. I did see a 112% IDC logged, but i still have my limit set to 100. car is holding .8 AFR desired / actual across the entire log.
