So folks my Juan is due for vvt service next week, local reputable shop is doing it. I know for dealer warranty claims its always "stock out with your cock out"

Do I need to remove the Cobb OTS tune I'm running when I send her in?

Thanks guys

Saw "cock " came in here, was disappoint.

Having said that, as long as it's not the dealer, I think you'll be fine.

I would log your miles though. ..

If you stock out in that manner you may be brought up on charges of public indecency. Careful o.0

Is your Juan still under a powertrain warranty?
For years it missed it by 10 months (08.5 sold in May), under for mileage (53k). Took it to Mazda here in town and he gave me "well it's out of warranty" the preceded to quote me 1600 for the replacement.

Needless to say I shopped around, at only reputable ase certified shops etc.

Drive up to VaBeach and @Rokusek and I can probably do it or guide you through it.

Yes, please do, if I remember correctly we have almost everything to do it, I think the only thing we are missing is the actual chain, we have a new actuator, tensioner, crank bolt, sealant and guide arms if need be, valve cover gasket and all the friction washers. So a new chain is all you would need to buy before heading up. Maybe even I can talk to the wife and we can come to you one weekend, shouldn't take more than a few hours. It will save you 1300 bucks. All I ask is that you pay for the parts I already have so we have replacements for someone else who might need them right away.

I'd go with this offer over your reputable shop @PapaBone

Thanks for the approval here Neal!

I'm jelly! I wish I had Motorheads offering wrenching help in my area. Then the idea of eventually building/engine swapping wouldn't be so daunting, haha.

Wow guys, like really wow. I appreciate the offer @Rokusek and @DISIFTW really.

Truth be told, the shop I will be taking it to, my dad has an account there and he offered to let me use it for my repair after hearing about how crappy it was that the dealer turned me down. Yes, im a 30 year old dad that takes a hand out from my parents from time to time.. its weird but it saves money.

So I will be getting it all done free to me, HOWEVER you guys have shown me 100% more love than I have seen in an other Speed forum and I appreciate that so much. Now granted I know im under the protection of the noob question forum thus saving me from a wall of cat ass, but still this was really great. I appreciate the offers.

Here I am, have 5 posts, been a member for 4 days and im getting gracious offers to come up to someones house and help work on my car. @Raider you've got something special here. And am becoming metal right after this post solely from this one thread alone.

So does this mean you're going to do it yourself?

If so...

Well the offer is always there. If you need the tools I'll loan them to you for a small fee which will be returned upon my receipt of the tools when you are done.

I'm more than willing to help you out. I also have a how to that I posted up here for your convenience. It needs some touching up which I'm currently working on that right now but it's pretty solid for the moment. If you need anything else when the day does come I have no problems giving you my number so you can call for questions.

Just keep this in mind.

@PapaBone has the shop you're planning using don't VVT work before? If so awesome. If not.. then you might want to show them @Rokusek 's howto article and see if they feel confident doing that amount of work. We had a local in Jax have a mechanic do his with no prior knowledge.. dude's car slipped timing instantly.

^^^--- this has been known to happen many times nation wide now that I think about it.

The shop will be doing it.
When I call this week to schedule I will interview them about VVT and our platform and will offer up all the help, if they need it. They have most definitely done VVT work on other vehicles. If I get any hesitation I'll be hitting you guys up for your offer for sure!

And yea, I have seen the horror stories of people getting fucked at other shops not knowing what they are doing. I've been doing some homework

That's all good news. Just be sure to ask questions and be 100% sure that they know what they are doing. I would hate to see this go wrong for you.

.

To clarify, the local got a quote from the dealer, and went to another shop to save $400. They botched it, re-used a lot of parts. Cams were off time (cams are not marked for timing) so he was close to having bent valves. It was also pouring oil. Took to another shop for another $800 and ended up spending more than the $1200 dealer quote.

Welp, the shop does not do the VVT for our MZR motor. Yay for being special!

I am back to the drawing board since I was planning on this being a free repair either by the dealer (hoped for the warranty) or by the shop with the parental help. I'm going to save up for the kit from edge and go from there. @Rokusek I will be in touch for sure man. Tax man needs to get here with his check so I can get this bad boy fixed.
