The original leak could have been for any number of reasons. Now that you have had a leak it could have damaged the exhaust manifold. The leak would have let a lot of heat get to the outside of the casting in an isolated spot which probably should result in some warping. Sucks cause it will be another six hours to check.
If you do it before you swap the motor I would just get another oem manifold check that it is flat and just swap so that you can get it all wrapped up without waiting on machining. They are cheap enough that it might be cheaper than fixing the one you have.

i dont think ill end up pulling it apart again before the season comes to an end. i have enough materials(tires and brake pads) for maybe one more track day, then the rest will be street driving till it is off the road for winter/motor swap. at that point ill check it for flatness and either grab another used OEM manifold, or if i could grab a full race OEM flange manifold for cheap enough, might do that upgrade. im thinking youre right and it is warped though.

this past saturday, 5.5 hour round trip in my buddies turbo ford ranger
all so i could go pick this bad boy up
A local parted out his build since he purchased a super charged miata and was done with his speed. had alot of good parts but this was what i had my eye on.
K1 rods, Wiseco pistons, OEM everything else. 20k km on the long block and it was making ~400whp with a gtx3076.
ill be doing valve springs for more RPM which will be SO useful on track, even if my turbo isnt doing anything up top. id like 7400rpm or more. also need to do CS or Overspeed injector seals and thats about it. i got this as a complete long block with hpfp, injectors, fuel rail, injector harness, just about everything minus manifolds and starter and oil filter housing(no big deal). got a great deal, FAR cheaper then the build sheet i had put together.
pulled the valve cover and oil pan off for inspection before purchase. bottom end was so clean it looks like the motor never ran. oil was clean too, dark and used, but nothing shiny or weird so thats clean to me! the head was unbelievably clean as well. you could tell the previous owner did short intervals on the oil changes. i like this.
anyways this will be a major overhaul. plan for now is to repackage my cooling setup, and swap the motor. goals for power are to max out the OEM fuel system, bring the boost in as quick as humanly possible(give me ALL the spool pls) and run it like that. as you know, ill be tracking the shit out of it so meth is not an option on track. might run a meth kit on the street for some fun, or if i come across a deal on a 6th port kit ill go that route. turbo setup will remain the same unless someone buys my setup. i have a relentless customs PnP IM ill be installing, and ill be sticking with OEM EM unless i catch a deal on a full race manifold.

This kit is absolutely massive. Pictures do no justice. The rotor is massive, thick, and light AF. The caliper is also HUGE and also light AF. The lightness has been throwing me off. You’d think a kit this size would be heavy but the rotor and caliper together are far lighter then just the oem rotor. I am beyond excited to feel the stoping power of this kit. Can not wait for the new setup. Still undecided what pads I’ll run since the stop tech included pads are more of a street pad. Might try hawk hp+ again, or go straight for the gloc r12’s and never have to worry about brakes like ever again. Much excite for this mod.

those are $700cad each. plus shipping. i paid a few(i use the word few loosely) bucks more for my bbk lol. i think the wilwood kit WITH 2 piece rotors is around 1400-1500cad. way cheaper for you guys.

Well, i sold both sets of my rpf1’s since they won’t work with my bbk. Took 12 hours to sell both sets lol. That was quick. I listed one set for 900, and the other for 1000. I got 1050 for the one set, and 1000 for the other set. People really wanted these wheels lol.
perfect timing to as a cpe EM just showed up for sale locally. I told the guy I’d take it once it’s off the car so wheel money will be going there. Also checking out a potential new wheel setup today. MUCH cheaper then I originally intended but they’re lightweight, strong, 17”, and clear the bbk with a slight spacer(6mm).
Was a sad day selling off these wheels yesterday. They will be missed. I loved my rpf1’s. They were like the only wheel I could dream of 4 years ago when I bought the car.

Just picked these up. I guess they’re alright. 1.5lbs heavier then my rpf1’s but that’s ok. They were REAL affordable. $750 cash for the set. My budget was 3k so that’s perfect. Interesting how they’re the EXACT same specs as my rpf1’s but these actually work!

Finally got around to primering and painting this. I sanded it last week but I have been real busy.
Now, I suck at painting. I’m terrible at it but I tried my BEST to do a half decent job. I was told these grills sunfade like crazy so that’s why I’m painting it. It’ll get beat up on track anyways so meh whatever.

paint started clumping a bit which I’m SO annoyed about. It’s getting cold out here in Canada and that’s definitely what ruined it. But, it does look good and the clumps...whatever. Fuck it. Race car.
Should get around to clearing it tomorrow then installing it. Made a video on my process so that’ll be fun to edit.

found some used but in decent shape re71’s local to me for a good price so I’ll be grabbing those tonight, then getting them mounted tomorrow. After that just waiting on my lugs and extended studs to show up, then on goes the bbk!! Just in time for winter.
I also found my ugly exhaust leak. Between turbo and manifold now. Hopefully it’s just loose. Maybe I can drive the car a little before it gets too shitty out. Would be nice!

I couldn’t wait any longer. My arp studs showed up yesterday, so out to the garage I went to start on the driver side
Banged out the studs with a hammer, only had a little framing hammer but it worked fine. No big
I pulled the arp studs through using a socket as a spacer and a lug nut. I sent it with the big ol impact and it worked well. Took a lot of force though. Even ripped the threads out of the lug nut. The studs however are fine and went in without too much hassle. New open ends lugs are on the way so no big deal ruining my old lugs.

stoptech rotor is a thiccc boy. Damn.
overall diameter isn’t MUCH larger, but the stoptech is much lighter, thicker, and has well defined cooling veins.
When I do the passenger side I’ll weigh everything

installation was straight forward. Stop tech’s instruction book was spot on. Every single piece fit like oem, no bullshit. No hassle. No nothing. Literally direct bolt on. Nice.

Probably won’t be able to get the other side done till this weekend. Ah well, that’s ok. Can’t wait to feel the new setup. Damn.

Well, brake install is complete. Was pretty much smooth!! Until the end...couldn’t finish it without one incident of course...after bleeding the passenger side caliper, I put the wheel on and was finally ready to lower the car down. It was like 10pm, I was tired and excited for new car parts. Lowered the car down...uh oh. I LEFT A WHEEL UNDER THE FRONT OF THE CAR. FUCK.(lucky it was one of my buddies oem ms6 wheels). I quickly lift the car back up, move the wheel...drops of oil on the garage floor. Oh fuck. Here we good. Cracked the oil pan. Yup. Of course that happened. After 10-15 minutes of freaking out I finally took a look under the car...holy shit. Didn’t even touch the oil pan. Just squished the filter a bit. HA. Lucky me. Holy shit lol. Swapped the filter with a new one and good to go.

I wasn’t even getting into abs. Fucking car just stopped. Like it just went from 60mph to 10mph like right away. Stopping was so aggressive the car was squirming and fighting around all over the place. What a feeling. Shit stops HARD. Can’t wait to feel real race pads.

I just went out and pulled the car apart a little. Exhaust leak confirmed between turbo and manifold. Missing 1 nut, other 3 were loose. Will replace the one nut, crank the hell out of it and hope I didn’t cook the gasket. If I did then new gasket tomorrow morning and off to the track sunday!
Very excited to see how these brakes do on track, even with a “street” pad installed they should do well

Well update. time for a story. i had a weekend let me tell you what.
it started off when i finished bedding in my brakes on thursday. i was trying to make it to Speed Academies(local Canadian youtubers) youtuber lapping day at the track.
i had to sort out my horrible exhaust leak first though. its been killing me all season, slowing my turbo spool to the point where i wasnt even making full boost anymore. it felt the worst, i didnt even want to drive the car to bed in the brakes lol...
well what did we find? leak exists between turbo and manifold. jeez. so i began friday at lunch time by pulling off the heatshield to reveal i was completely missing 1 nut, and the other 3 were hand tight. i though "great, ill go get some nuts, tighten it up and good to go!!" boy was i wrong.
tried to tighten shit up and this happened...
i was ready to end my career and retire. part out? yea it sucked. after freaking out for 10-15 minutes i made the decision i would spend saturday pulling my turbo, to patch it up for the track sunday.

well saturday was definitely a fun day...took me about 5 hours total. it sucked for sure but i got it done. take a look at this LOL
slid in the new gasket then lifted the turbo back into position and started installing a new stud
generic stud from the local Canadian version of harbor freight. good enough. i double nutted everything i could, the rest...we will recheck soon.
either way, car was back together. first test drive, looked at the gas pedal a little and BAM!! waste gate screaming, holyyyyyyyyyy fuck we're back baby and we're fucking boosting.
take a look at the difference in spool, at the bottom end LOL

welp, i DID make it to the track sunday and it was absolutely incredible. due to the event, there were a TON of cars out lapping, most of them more serious track guys with proper track etiquette. three run groups, fast, faster, fastest. i kept ending up in the fastest group but it was ok!! videos below.
THE BRAKES
so i ran the stop tech included pads which are their 309 sport pads. basically an OEM+ sort of pad, light auto X use, back road beatings, but thats about it. the instructions recommend swapping them out before tracking...meh.
first 2-3 laps i had what felt like infinite stopping power, i was braking WAY too early and i already brake on the later side. the car would haul down from speed so quickly it was get out of sorts and squirm around. what a feeling. as i did laps though i did begin to cook the pads pretty bad and had a soft pedal most of the day. i bled the fluid track side and no bubbles, so must just be the pad dying. no matter, just keep sessions sorter and did more cool down laps in between. one thing i will say, modulation with this BBK is insane. every bit as good as OEM, maybe better. press harder? get more stoppage. press softer? less stoppage. perfect.
with a race pad like my gloc R12's this kit will be insane. i was finally able to get my RE71s to hit ABS on track, with the OE caliper and my gloc pads i wasnt able to get into ABS. too much tire? not a bad thing.
even with the soft pedal i was still giving the brakes the beans and they were fucking working. its an expensive kit but i would buy it again, every. single. time. fuck its good.
some footage below, i ran a new personal best on sunday, without even thinking. i was in auto pilot mode just sending it along and i remember thinking "fuck we're flying here boys, lets turn the timer on" i timed one good lap, 6 tenths faster then my previous personal best. WITHOUT EVEN TRYING. yup. ill take it. car was so gripped up, made allllllllllllllllll 325whps like on demand, rotated like a rwd, and just fucking flew. i was just hanging on enjoying the ride at this point. amazing.

me following my buddy in his SRT4. he makes like 280-290whp, and weighs like 500lbs less then me with driver in the car. was fun to follow him around and see what hes doing
