small update,
exhaust is finished and on the car





ran into an issue which will keep the car from being ready this week. damn. oil drain doesnt fit properly with the ewg port there. this is where the progress has stopped. not sure what to do here


my buddy had come up with the idea to modify the drain, and just run some hose in between. i guess this will work ok right? what other options do i have? keep in mind, this car sees serious heat on track and i need reliability. i think a hose shouldnt see much heat where it would be between turbo drain and block but im not sure. any advice or input?

temp solution for oil drain, need to get some better hose, i have oil rated and temp rated hose coming from vibrant, should be in today and i will get it swapped in. also have some DEI heat sleeve coming, will cover the line with it and it should be good to go and reliable enough for track duty.

WG has been installed and was a MAJOR pain in the ass. hopefully it doesnt need to come out anytime soon. hoping to have the car finished this weekend and boosting by monday. then itll be time to tune it and see if any power is gained on this new setup. or ideally less boost to make the same power i had. also hopefully its not too loud!

WG dump is a little close to the power steering lines even though we tried to make it not so close. will pick up some more DEI product to make some shielding, ill wrap the dump tube, and even the PS lines. should be ok for now. really just want to drive the car again, even on a base map itll be plenty of fun

You asked for suggestions earlier.... either go back to IWG which I know is not your goal, or get a manifold with an EWG port and dump the EWG tube downward.

Having the WG off the turbo hotside, still forces all the exhaust through the flange first before the WG controls it. A WG off the manifold allows WG control before it goes through the turbo.

hm, thanks for the input. i really didnt consider that. Im hoping this EWG setup is better then IWG, im hoping itll do for my longer term goals as well. the cost of going with a manifold and EWG AND new housing for the turbo was more then i was willing to spend right now, being in canada i get KILLED by exchange rate, shipping, and duties.

so speaking with my buddy who built the dump tube yesterday, he said theres decent clearance between it and the PS lines so thats a good plus!

im hoping this fancy vibrant tubing and the DEI heat sleeve will hold, ill check it out over the first few weeks, but i know on track heat is WAY more then on the streets. i may have to run a hot lap, then inspect it and see. heres hoping!

well, cars done. my buddy and i finished it on monday. monday was a holiday here in canada land so we took the day to finish it up.

it fought us a bit but over all we won. first issue was the oil drain, the new hose i got was stiff and hard to work with given how short the piece was, but we got it in there, heat sleeved, and alls well there.

hose is rated to 300f, oil resistant, nylon sleeved, stainless steel reinforced. DEI sleeve is rated to 2000f radiant heat. should be ok since its not touching anything(hopefully)


i did drain all the coolant so i used this as a good time to refill with some fresh stuff. simple process, took a little but of time but no issue there.

next annoying issue was oil feed, it was leaking pretty good. i had new OEM washers for the bango but it was still leaking, tried tightening it, still leaking. my buddy remembered there being a stainless steel washer ontop of the fitting, so we removed the copper washer and put the old stainless washer back in, problem solved! no more leak.

first start was extremely rowdy. car is loud. cold start is TOO loud. can cold start be tuned out? i know theres a way to bypass it but anytime ive tried it it doesnt work. warm idle isnt too loud at all so thats good.

initial drive was terrifying. 15psi spring combo in the gate, EBCS bypassed, it hit 19psi followed by a loud BANG then the car started dying, and i freaked out. blew a charge pipe. limped back to the shop, fixed that. round two, alls well. still saw 19psi though. I emailed my tuner and he responded back saying 19psi is fine, a little creep but nothing major, i offered to lower the spring but he said its not needed so thats good!

one thing i am going to do is replace all my vac line for the WG and ebcs. im using this tiny ID cobb stuff, 3mm ID, tial recommends no less then 1/4" ID vac line(6mm) so i ordered some to replace that before we start tuning.

car made it over 1 hour home, highway driving and back roads. no issue. drove well, exhaust is a little loud on the highway but its manageable. the EWG screamer though, thats loud. very loud. too loud for the streets but a non issue on track. cant wait to get the tune dialed in and finally hit the track again!


dump pipe, good bit of room around it, shouldnt have heat issues, still considering wrapping it. thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about heat wrapping it, now that it's installed. I'm going to do my dump and DP once I start this S5 install. I say if you notice significant warming by your feet on track, it may be worth it then.

Yea I think it should be ok. There’s decent room around it. Spent the weekend driving the car around. Ran some new vac line, went all 1/4” for the WG and EBCS. So far, even on just a base map the car feels great. It’s creeping to about 19psi with the 15psi springs but my tuner said that’s fine so I’ll leave the springs that are in it. Top end feels strong.

EWG is a ton of fun for sure, but damn is it loud lol. My exhaust is also far too loud with just that one muffler. Need another muffler for sure! Can’t wait to get the tune dialed in again and hit the track June 8th!

Took a log this weekend, everything looks good, boost comes on later and is a little lazy but im assuming thats cause my wgdc is all zero'd out, and slightly larger exhaust housing. with some wgdc added back into the bottom end im sure itll spool quickly again. vdyno showed 304whp, 313wtq corrected, so thats decent i guess, for 19psi anyways. shouldnt have any issue hitting the mid 300's im after. Top end feels strong, cant wait to finish up the tune again.


also, not sure if this is because i did a drain and fill on the coolant, or because of the newly installed oil cooler, but my coolant temps have been keeping lower then im used to, by a decent amount too. i wonder if thatll show on track also.

Its very possible its helping depending on its location. What oil cooler did you install (specs/brand) and do you have any pics?

ive got a few pictures my buddy took and sent to me, theyre not great but youll get the idea,
oil cooler is a mishimoto 19 row, with a setrab thermostatic sandwich plate. its right above my front mount, its in front of my rad, so with my track day coming up soon ill see how it helps with on track coolant temps. oil temp/pressure gauge will hopefully be going in soon as well.

Should have my car back friday, finally, for good lol. Had to add a muffler, the near straight pipe exhaust was just too damn loud for me. maybe im getting old or what but it was too much!

had my buddy add a nice magnaflow for me. he says it sounds good now, still makes noise, but its not ignorant anymore so thats good!

cars done, just cant get up to the shop to pick it up until friday after work. ah well, its going to be a really nice weekend, so ill be logging a new map, and giving the car a good solid shake down after all these changes. make sure everything is solid enough for track duty.





i need an exhaust tip ive been told....low on the list of needs right now lol but ill get one.

have some nice heat sleeve coming in for my vac lines, had a WG line crack due to heat last year, that was some scary stuff, not looking to deal with that again.

creeps to 20psi, slow spool(my guess cause of the 0 WGDC and lower timing) but over all feels good.

Picked up my car friday after work and immediately flashed my new map to it, i wasnt expecting much as this was just to test boost control with the new ewg but i wanted it on asap.

Left my buddies shop and went to go wot, didnt go so well. Car was stuttering and popping, back firing, and cutting out at any boost above 9psi. that sucked. Flashed back my base map but same issue.

turned out to be my spark plugs, one spark plug hole was full of water! i guess the coil wasnt seating properly with the seal and the car sat outside in the rain all week. crazy, but new plugs gapped to 0.024 and we were good to go!

quick look at the new muffler and exhaust on a lift, i like it alot. car is pretty quiet, my buddies think its too quiet and whatnot but i dont care, its PERFECT for me, no drone at all, its great, and with the ewg dump tube, i have noise on demand with that thing.

new map feels solid, both me and the GF agree the car feels faster then it did on the old setup, even with less boost, and even though vdyno shows less power, car still feels great and pulls harder up top. pretty happy with where its at and on track itll be great. turbo spool feels pretty damn good, response is awesome.

numbers dont look like much but it sure feels good on the back roads, time to do some more tuning and turn the power up

Well, finally took the car for a shake down on the streets, cant push to hard but i got a good idea! Went to visit some of the twisty back roads to really test it all out. Im on brand new hankook RS4, 255/40/17 tires and at first they were a little greasy, i was told this would be the case because of the mold release they use. after about 250km of working them, and some real heat, they seemed to pick up grip significantly.

Brakes are HP+ all around, and stop tech rotors, slotted upfront, blanks in the rear. Car stopped without much issue but you can tell on these tight back roads that heavy car is heavy. Even around 310whp it was building speed at an incredible rate between turns. Brakes got a real work out, got them cooking. New alignment seems to be pretty bang on, lift off over steer and rotation under braking is very noticeable in low speed corners, hopefully it wont be too sketchy in high speed corners.

my tune is still far from complete, only one revision since the base map but i can tell the top end is night and day since doing the ewg housing and 3" turbo back. revving out is actually rewarding, and going WOT in 3rd at 4k rpm, just about instant full boost. Feels very responsive which is what im looking for for my uses.

Over all, car felt strong, handled well, and the EWG dump sounds amazing. cant wait for track days.

Well, its been a weekend! had a new map to log, and had a track day to attend. lets begin.

new map, basically more of everything? little more boost, little more timing, little more power. Spool is freaking quick though. 20psi by 3200rpm vs last summers 20psi by 3600rpm. i know there are weather factors that can change this but to me, the car feels like it spools REAL quick. feels great.

for my track day, i had to run the old map, as it was cleared by my tuner for track duty. it was still a ton a fun and made more power then my poor diff can handle, pretty sure i have an open diff now LOL. either way, power was perfect.

Track day was a blast. had a TON of fun. my idea was to just shake down the car, since its gots a ton of new parts on it and just to get back into the swing of things at the track. welp after my first session i basically went into full send mode. Car drove amazingly well.

The car LOVES to rotate by lifting off the throttle, i can basically drift the thing. no this isnt the fastest way through a corner but damn is it fun. lift off oversteer can be useful for low speed corners and transitions that would cause the car to under steer. im still playing with my technique and lines, and also hoping to stop lifting to induce oversteer, and start left foot braking.

set tire pressures to 36psi cold, came into the pits AFTER a cool down lap and a lap of the paddock, hot tire pressures were 47psi upfront!! the heat coming off my brakes was so intense i couldnt hold the tire pressure gauge, i was being burned. its safe to say those brakes put in some damn good work.



lowered pressures down to 32psi cold and sent it. as the night went on ambient temps dropped quick and i wasnt dealing with tire pressures rising as much so thats good! brake fade was non existent, coolant temps were in check, maxing out about 110c PEAK, averaging about 106c for continuous hot laps.

one of the biggest things im noticing this year: either im leaving corners faster, or the car makes that much more power at the top end. im running out of gear where i use to not. im finding that ill be upcoming a corner and going "oh shit, im literally out of 4th" where last year id still have another 1000rpm to go. kinda strange.

i was hitting that front straight turn 1 braking zone just as 4th was almost maxing out, maybe 400rpm more of gear. can probably brake later but damn i was on the brakes so hard the car also gets squirmy and its hard to control.

RS4 tires, 255/40/17 for those wondering. not as grippy as my RE71 thats very noticeable but theyre not bad either, once they come up to temp grip is solid.

anyways, thats where we're at for now. my LAST lap of the day, my pressure relief valve took a shit. so that sucked. limped the car home. awaiting parts to replace that then hoping to hit the track again asap!!

Update! so i replaced my fprv, had to remove the stupid rail guard to do it but over all whole process took about 45 minutes. wasnt that bad at all! thanks to all who provided some good tips and tricks on how to do it easily, @Enki and @_Mazdarati basically told me what i needed to do and how, also showed me some helpful pictures. thanks!

after replacing the fprv all is well! fuel pressure back up to normal.


flashed my most recent map and went to log. car feels great! it looks like we're just about done tuning, power is where i wanted it to be for my track uses. at this point theres maybe 1 or 2 revisions left to just clean it up a bit and itll be done!!

recent log, 20psi by 3200rpm. boost comes on quick. some timing was pulled as we reached the limits of my pump gas here, so kinda low on timing but for a track map to hot lap on, this is perfect! feels good to me


planning to get out to the track either friday or saturday to enjoy all the time and money in the car now LOL.

He does very well to use all of the course to maintain his cornering speeds. Learn to get on the throttle sooner (rolling into it) vs coasting out and you'll see your times drop more.

Yea I really should’ve stuck it to him more but I wanted to follow his line and learn. I’m still learning lol. Thanks for your input though! I’ll be heading back out to the track next weekend and I’ll get more footage. Corner exit is still tricky as the car just blows the tires off. 3rd gear corner exits are tricky. Really need to be more patient on the throttle. I was at the track last weekend but it was damn hot. Still had a ton of fun. Didn’t get any footage though

Well, finalized the tune with Nishan, and i have to say the car feels amazing. its a blast to drive, great on the track, and really revs out nicely now. top end pull is strong! estimated power from nishan is around 340-350whp.


took the car out to the track this past monday for a day session, and it was awesome. it was 37c(99f) outside so i had to keep the on track sessions shorter and have longer cool down times but that was ok! it was no problem. i hit my same personal best multiple times but really couldnt push past it. that said, i set this personal best on stickier tires so the fact that im matching it now is cool!

these were two fully track built and track prepped scion TC's. gutted, caged, lexan windows, slicks, the works. the white one makes around 340-360whp turbo 2.4L, the black one is a 2.8L stroker motor, estimated to be around 260-280whp(my guess). it was fun chasing them down, but talking to them off track, the owners are learning, and dont have much seat time. you can probably see that from the videos lol.
