i will definitely be going with a larger core, probably the 25 row from setrab, and itll probably just get mounted directly infront of my fmic. is what it is. oil temps were WAY out of hand on track. on the street, its a non issue though

Make sure to route the lines out of the grille and through the hood scoop for ultimate scene points.

I run a 19-row Setrab oil cooler on my Subaru BRZ with 200whp and see about 245 oil temps at the track running 5w30 Motul 300V. That should tell you all you need to know about 10- or 19-row oil "cooler" kits out there for cars with much more horsepower. CSF has a new line of oil coolers that you may want to look into, link.

I came across the csf coolers in my searches today but I’m just not sure yet. I figured a setrab 25 row, or possibly even the 34 row would be a safe bet. I’m planning to mount it either in front of, or behind my fmic. If the 19-row keeps your brz around 245, I may need to go straight to the 34 row for my car. Hmm. The csf core looks like it’ll fit where my current cooler is though, that would be nice. Really need to step up oil cooling though. Just unsure how to proceed right now

Mounted in front of the intercooler, I would go with a Setrab, you want a tube and fin design for most airflow through the core.

Or maybe it is time to get a custom crash bar, and V mount the intercooler and the oil cooler.

Yea I think I’ll go setrab and I think if I’m going to put it near the intercooler, I’m going with this guy, 34 row. This should be plenty.

V mount would be amazing. Wondering how I’d do it in there though, not a ton of room I don’t think.

Do you recall the oil pressure values you were seeing on your speed 6? At track temp

Yeah, I am planning to switching to either Castrol SLX Professional SM 5w40 (Subaru Japan recommended) or Ravenol 5W-50 (Toyota Motorsports, used in 2017 86 CS-Cup).

You guys really need to run a heavier oil like 20w-50 for the track. You are so far beyond the use the stock weights are intended for that they are meaningless
I’m starting to think this might be true. Before this track day I had just changed my oil and was about to jump to a 5w50 but wanted to see how the 5w40 would hold up.

I think now I want to swap to the 5w50. Any issue with running it on the street though?

The engine will be fine, my M5 and wife's M3 use 10w60 and are street cars. :D
LOL perfect. good to hear. just hoping it holds up to the heat...i have an event next weekend and will be running on my current not so great cooling setup. hoping the 5w50 can keep pressure a little better then the 40 weight

oohh thank you for this! ive been noticing some fuel smell lately, but didn't think too much of it. i definitely need to pull the internals out and take a look. if they're scored i guess it'll be time for another set of autotechs? and the screws seals...need some resealing im guessing?

I just did mine about 6 months ago, LTFT kept getting incresingly more negative and the car smelled awful rich.

Here is the Oring thread

Here is the How To

I bought some cheap 10w30 to flush the old oil out because of how bad the fuel dilution was. I ran it on the street for a couple of days and just stayed out of boost. New oil has been crystal clean and fuel free since the HPFP rebuild. LTFT is back to normal.

Some good info here. I feel like the fuel dilution is slowly getting a little worse and I know my tune adds a lot of fuel when bats get up there but it’s possible my hpfp needs some new orings and a good cleaning. It’s been installed for a long time now with tons of mileage on it

I just barely started tracking my MS3 and came across this thread. Awesome write ups on your upgrade path to getting a track worthy setup! Those fog light ducts look amazing too! Is there any chance you could share a solid model file?

My first track day was 95F at Streets of Willow with no oil cooler and was also sending it all day with no oil cooler. For my second track day at SoW, I had installed a JBR 19 row cooler and was able to monitor my oil temps. In 99F weather, my temps stayed mostly around 220F to 230F. I think I hit 235 once towards the end of a 20 minute session though.

Hey! Welcome. Glad you found my thread. I should be able to share the files with you. You’re looking for the dust shield plate and the funnel for the fog openings?

Glad to hear it about the oil cooler. In my opinion it’s necessary on these cars if you’re planning to track it. Seems like your oil temps are perfect.

Track day yesterday, updates to come.

Yeah, definitely glad I got one. You mentioned crazy temps with your 10 row, I can't even imagine what my temps looked like without the cooler. Are you tuned on E85 or a blend? I'm running an E30 tune (24 psi, k04), but am going to ask my tuner if I should dial it back with a track specific tune, or maybe an E85 track tune.

Yes, both the dust shield and fog ducts please! Thanks a ton!

So I’m tuned just on straight 94, as there’s no e85 in Canada where I’m at. I’m GT3071 though as I’m sure you read here. More power = more heat. I wouldn’t be surprised if I was running around last summer with 300f oil temps and no oil pressure lol. Damn. My new setup just arrived so I’ll be posting up about that soon!

in terms of track tune, I let my tuner know what I was planning to do with the car and as heat increases boost and timing decreases. It’s probably a little aggressive but that’s how I wanted it.

I can help you out with the files although I will say they are for personal use only!
