2008 Mazdaspeed 3 – Sudden Boost Loss, Need Ideas
About 2 weeks ago, i was doing a pull at around 19–20 psi when the car suddenly lost boost. It didn't feel like a fuel cut, more like the boost was bleeding off. After driving normally for a bit without getting into boost, it started pulling again, but only getting around 17–19 psi,, sometimes as low as 16.
I checked the intake, looked over the boost controller hoses, and took the intake off and reinstalled it. Nothing obviously stood out.
I suspected my hybrid dualport BPV/BOV, so I swapped to the stock BPV, but that didn't fix it. If anything, I was only getting around 16 psi with the stock valve.
At a shop, we pressure-tested the system through the intake, and air was leaking out of the aftermarket BPV at under 1 psi. So went and got a GFB Respons dual port and installed it, but I'm still having the same boost issue. I haven't pressuretested the GFB, but it seems to be functioning normally.
Tonight I recorded a pull, and you can hear the turbo/boost noise change as it seems to lose boost, almost like it's bleeding off. (I happened to be recording with my phone, and had dji mics on. Look at the rom and listen and you will hear it happen.) I'm also noticing a new noise from the exhaust that wasnt there before.
Any ideas what I should check next?
