Low Boost MS6

Yea I sprayed that whole area really good with soapy water when I took the intercooler off and tested the through the throttle body. I am ordering new injector seals and when I put them in I’ll double check all hoses and connections with great detail to verify none are cracked or leaking.

I just found this on the carfax. Turbo was replaced at 93k. Could it be they put the cx7 turbo they doesn’t hit 15psi boost? I saw that on a different thread or cheap eBay unit that’s not the right unit?

Alright I think I figured it out. I bought a used oem turbo hoping to swap it and eliminate the potential for a bad turbo. While it was off the car I noticed some things. It is a Dorman replacement turbo and I noticed the wastegate flap in the exhaust was loose. Like I can wiggle it around with my fingers. Which means air can definitely escape. So I think the person who installed it never set the preload and I was loosing boost through the wastegate while it was “closed”. It’s got an adjustable wastegate arm on it. So my question is how many mm of preload should I run if I want to use this Dorman turbo? Thanks!

It depends on the actuator, but you generally don't want the membrane to touch/rub or it will puncture and then you have zero control on boost. Start with 3mm ish preload, maybe up it to 5mm if it doesn't get much better. If 3mm causes overboost situations, it may already be damaged beyond repair.
