Dual VTA Bypass Valve

We have another new part for the Mazdaspeed 3/6 available, our Dual VTA Bypass valve.



It is a tiny valve in a GIANT white space!

So, I decided to pick one of these up, since my OEM valve was just starting to crack at peak boost, and I really liked the clean, compact design.

It installed flawlessly, because it is essentially the same dimensions as OEM and uses the OEM gasket. It's literally a 10 minute install.

It seems to hold pressure very well (I'm only pushing up to about 21 psi) and transient response on throttle lift is very fast. It also sounds very clean when it vents to atmosphere, just a nice whoosh of air with no clanging or banging.

The only thing that surprised me with this part is that it makes all kinds of little whistling/wheezing/ringing sounds at low throttle positions, even just high idling at cold start. These are quiet, but VERY high pitched. I have excellent high frequency hearing so maybe most people don't notice.

Maybe one of the Corksport guys can let us know if this is normal. I'm not saying it's bad, just something I wasn't expecting and I want to make sure it's normal behavior for this valve. If all the little noises cruising are normal, I'm good with that, I'll just turn on the radio

The MANY sounds you are hearing are normal for the BPV. When we started the project the goal was to design a fast responding BPV that could VTA without upsetting the car and hold high pressure without leaking. The resulting noise from that is more or less just that; the resulting noise/sounds.
The spring to apply just enough pressure on the piston to seal under boost while being soft enough to respond very fast (~50 mili-secs). Due to the spring being very soft, the BPV is very reactive to throttle inputs causing the piston to move up and down alot. Every piston position, pressure venting, and volume venting (Mainly full recirc under light inputs) will result in different sounds.
So I assure you its normal, the BPV just has alot to say haha

I had figured that was probably the case. It definitely reacts very quickly to any changes in manifold conditions. I guess you could say it's a very "talkative" valve.

Quick update, I finally got my summer tires back on and it got warm enough to actually drive hard. The valve is definitely doing a good job reacting to lots of sudden throttle changes. It is also much more entertaining now that I am hitting the VTA threshold more often.
