I might have had the traction control still on, the weight was just some stuff in my trunk plus a bit in my backseat but not a bunch, and everytime I go wot I see a grey/black cloud of smoke as if it’s running rich so I agree it should be leaned out some. And @Gizmo your VD graph shows you were in 4th gear? Mine was in 3rd as well so maybe if I do a 3rd gear and a 4th gear pull I can compare them on the VD.

Ok guys so I met a local guy that has an ms6 and he let me drive his to compare. First off his is bone stock, has 90K miles, and said it has had the VVT fix done to it and that the crankshaft was replaced as well for some reason. Mine has super high mileage and that I know of has not had any of that type of work done to it. Anyways his car pulled much harder at lower rpms than mine and they were actually about even after halfway into the rpms. His car felt much lighter as well and I don’t understand why it did. He had stock tires on his but mine are only 225 instead of 215’s. My wheels have a +35 offset though. In a straight line they should still feel similar right?

He says he thinks it most likely with like 190K miles is the turbo. Can anyone help with me buying a cheap replacement or have a good old one I could have? I am just so surprised at the difference and it’s pretty concerning. The motor seems to be running great though and I have been fighting a smoking turbo issue im pretty sure along with high oil consumption. Any help appreciated guys thanks.....

Ik guys its old and decrepit. Lol I’m rebuilding all the suspension this summer hopefully and then I’ll start chipping away at everything else but I just bought a house and so I don’t have much money at all. Can anyone please help me out until I can rebuild all this crap? Haha

I actually did check shaft play when I put on my CS TIP and it had absolutely no play at all about a year ago but anything could have happened to it in that time for sure.

And by help out I mean have an old ko4 laying around or now anyone who might have a turbo for me to buy to get this issue fixed and then ill know if it doesn’t fix it that I have alot bigger problems. Haha

I actually did check shaft play when I put on my CS TIP and it had absolutely no play at all about a year ago but anything could have happened to it in that time for sure.

If money is the issue and the car is running then don't mess with it. Unless you are burning oil like crazy due to turbo seals wait until you can afford a decent turbo. If you check facebook you can likely find a low mileage ko4 but your best bet for stock replacement will be s3 CS or s4 and those all come with more cost of EBCS, Intake, MAP Sensor, Tune, New Plugs, Gaskets etc.

I just replaced the plugs about 500 miles ago with 1 step colder plugs and yeah its burning a decent bit of oil. I have a restrictor bolt in and thicker oil as well. I was hoping to get a good BT setup and had everything ready to buy and then I bought a house instead.. haha My wife and 2 year old are happy though so it’s all good.. I was just hoping I could put a replacement in to basically see if that is the true problem otherwise I’ll know it is the motor.

If I were you I'd probably spend that money on a turbo. Suspension prolly isn't doing great either, but when the turbo is totally gone the car will not run, or will not run well at least.

You can do a little payment plan on a setup through edge or get it on PayPal credit and pay it off over 6 months or something with no interest if money is really an issue.

Well my dreams and goals were for a top mount twin scroll though so I guess I will have to settle given the circumstances lol.... I just always said do it once and do it the way I want and right. So idk if I could go that route or not. What would be the most affordable BT setup for around a gtx3076r size range? Any suggestions welcome guys!

You could still do top mount ebay cast mani and ebay turbo for cheap. It def won't be as fun as a twin scroll and you will have more power than you need up top and it will be laggy on stock internals so..... But you could do it cheap.

Thanks man I don’t know what to do but after driving my friends speed 6 I realized mine has a super slow spool time compared to his. I check my intercooler piping but no oil there? Can anything motor related cause slow spool? I’ve decided whichever is the problem I am going to just shell out some cash and do it right. Maybe not twin scroll but like BNR S4 with 3.5” intake and all the other go fast bits I need lol

With that many miles on the ko4 you def should replace it and start there if you want more power. S4 is a good turbo but slower spooling for sure 450-500whp. S3 will be more like ko4 with a little more top end 275-325 whp. CS is a mix of the two with decent spool and good top end 400-450 whp. Those are just guesstimates and you likely won't make over 325whp on 93 pump. You could push the turbo harder but on stock motor you won't want to and you run out of fuel. If you plan to stay stock motor CS or S3 would be the way to go.

Oh alright. I thought the S4 was supposed to have a pretty fast spool time? And about the top mount idea... I would love a top mount set up but wouldn’t I need another downpipe? Mine has a 3” V-band It would just be too high up right? Could I fab a piece that goes from where it stops top mounted to where the rest of the exhaust is?

S4 is a bigger turbo so you will have slower spool @VoodooJef has one and can let you know whats what. You would need to modify the DP for sure and maybe the cowel. You would also need a wg pipe welded if you went external WG. If you are in a colder climate the CS and s4 will creep when cold with their internal WG. i personally would get a used k04 and swap it, prior to dumping a bunch of money on upgraded turbo parts. i would not want to start modifying the car further without making sure that everything is healthy and working correctly.

there is a distinct possibility that you could put a new turbo on and find out the motor is toast.

lastly i think that top mount while cool is a ton of expense for adding power to a stock motor. the benefit of the top mount is the ability to fit a much larger turbo than the stock motor can handle let alone one with 200k miles on it.
 
The S4 is a great turbo but may be a little bit bigger than you`d want for a stock replacement feel. It`s sort of a dialed down 3076. Spool is measurably later than stock. And you`d be way, way underselling it on stock fuel supply. I`ll second the CS or the S3 suggestions if you`re going without aux fueling. They aren`t radically different from each other with similar supporting hardware.

Like has been said, figure out what your goals are and go from there. You`ll run out of fuel around 335ish on 93, 370ish on an E33 mix. If your goals are bigger than that you`ll need supplemental fuel. There isn`t any room for negotiation there. The you have to figur eout how much past that you want to go if you do. 400? 450? 500+? Plenty of people doing 400 with a squirt of methanol. My S4 was plenty fun at 425whp, seems about it`s sweet spot. Had to push it hard to get it closer to 500 and it took a LOT of methanol.
