New car problems

Hi,

I'm new to the mazdaspeed and this forum. I just purchased an 07 speed 6 a few weeks ago. I'm trying to go through and correct/fix some things, but running Into a few road blocks. Car has 115,000 on it and from what I'm told motor has about 4,000. Pretty extensive list of mods, but I can't tell if they are all actually there or not. I just replaced the valve cover gasket because it was leaking and while doing so noticed the ewg was loose and there was only 1 of the 4 studs on the turbo manifold. Put bolts on there for now. So the car is in the middle of being tuned by freak tune and dramatune. Both tuners have said the ebcs isn't doing anything and is just running on spring pressure. The car has a corksport 3port ebcs. Its plummed for an interrupt set up. When I first look I noticed the hoses to the intake and turbo were backwards and the ebcs wasn't plugged in, I switched and plugged. Now I'm only hitting about 7lbs of boost and there is a fluttering noise when getting into boost. Am I missing something, or is the ebcs shot?
Also even though I've seen a lot of it on here, I have white smoke out of the exhaust, burning oil smell under boost, oil coming out of wastegate dump tube, and oil in intercooler piping. Turbo should be as new as the motor and is a cs cst6. Do I need to replace pcv valve and add a catch can for this.

Sorry for the long post, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Would give thumbs up but sound s like no fun lol Anyway I haven't ran an ewg setup so not a ton of help there but I would say the turbo oil issue is either a bad turbo seal. It is also possible that the feed line is supposed to have a restrictor bolt if it is a ball bearing turbo as they need much lower oil feed amounts than a journal bearing turbo.
Oh and almost forgot but don't forget to make a post in the 'New Member' section as that is normally first before posting other threads. Glad you joined tho man!

I believe its ball bearing. I will say there is oil in the line going from the valve cover to the intake and oil in the intake itself. Where is the new members section? I didn't see it.

Pictures please. Lots of them so we can eyeball mods.
First two are the lists the seller had.

That list of mods is just a blur to me. Can't seem to expand it either.
Me either but looks like a decent bit has been done to it with the bigger turbo and jmf manifold and all that. Not cheap mods to have bought. I would say replacing the pcv valve will help some with your oil problem but sounds like the boost from your cst6 is pushing oil up into your crankcase. I would suggest doing an oil catch can setup. Damond Motorsports (who is a sponsor company on this forum) has great How-to info on routing them and all that. I did a catch can between the pcv valve and intake manifold but honestly one from the valve cover to a catch can would be much better.

Any ideas on the ebcs and lack of boost situation?

Hahaha Alright fair enough although there is a "Pic of your car as it sits right now" thread lol I should've posted a pic of mine with the piece of metal I just ripped out of the timing cover area haha

As far as the boost situation goes not really that familiar with ewg setups but possible that it is still hooked up incorrectly to the wg. I would say it should hit wg spring pressure either way unless the vacuum source was hooked up wrong to the wg to make it prematurely open? Lol

Two things:
1. Avoid Dramatune.
2. Pull the EWG and make sure the valve seat is actually installed, especially if the car seems louder than it should be at idle.

Probably should have tagged you too considering your a whizz with cars. Thanks Enki

Out of curiosity why do you say avoid dramatuned?
I really wouldn't know if its louder than it should be I've only had it a few weeks, but I can certainly check that out. It seemed to be hitting spring pressure (17) fine without the ebcs plugged in, but once plugging it in it will only go to around 7.5 I believe and gets a fluttering noise.

Both tuners had told the previous owner either the ebcs was bad or hooked up improperly. It was originally hooked up backwards from what I could tell, but seems to have gotten worse since I corrected it.

  1. Check your manifold for cracks, those are common on that exhaust manifold you might be hearing pulsing from the exhaust.
  2. Check you EWG seat, if it is not there you will always be leaking boost.
  3. upload_2021-1-11_9-38-35.png
  4. Check all your EWG vac lines to makre sure they are plumbed right.
  5. upload_2021-1-11_9-40-23.png
  6. Make sure the top of the WG is allowed to VTA or you will never have control of it. The lower port is for your line from the EBCS.
  7. upload_2021-1-11_9-41-17.png
  8. Check you springs that they are correct , if the motor is built and you have PI I would suggest a 14lb spring if it is OEM and no extra fuel you will want a 10.5 psi spring.
  9. upload_2021-1-11_9-44-22.png
  10. Check that you have the right MAP sensor in the tune and that it is also working correctly. You should see 0 psi of boost + or - .05 with Key on Engine Off "KOEO" If that value is not correct then your MAP sensor is not setup right in the tune or is ded.

So I can't comment on the seat, I haven't pulled it apart yet. From what I was told it has a 17lb spring in it and until plugging in the ebcs it was working fine. After plugging in the electrical it started fluttering around 7psi. I checked plumbing and the lines to the turbo and the inlet were backwards so I switched them and now its fluttering around 4 psi. So without ebcs it seemed to be running off spring pressure perfectly fine. I'm wondering if ebcs is shot or it just needs to be tuned. I'm waiting to hear back from freak to see if I can continue the revisions through him because the car was in the middle of being tuned when I bought it.
